Which automotive companies in Illinois sponsor visas for international workers?
Major sponsors include Ford Motor Company at their Chicago Assembly Plant, Stellantis with operations in Belvidere, and Rivian's electric vehicle manufacturing in Normal. Caterpillar in Peoria also sponsors for heavy equipment roles, while automotive suppliers like Navistar and automotive tech companies in the Chicago area frequently petition for H-1B visa and other work visas.
What are the most common visa types for automotive jobs in Illinois?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering, design, and technical roles at companies like Rivian and Ford. L-1 visas are common for international automotive companies transferring employees to Illinois operations. TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican professionals, while O-1 visas apply to exceptional talent in automotive innovation and electric vehicle development.
How to find automotive visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international talent with Illinois automotive employers who sponsor visas. The platform filters specifically for sponsorship-willing companies in Illinois' automotive sector, including major manufacturers in Chicago and Normal, plus the extensive supplier network throughout the state's industrial corridors.
Which Illinois cities have the most automotive visa sponsorship opportunities?
Chicago leads with Ford's assembly operations and numerous automotive suppliers, followed by Normal where Rivian operates its major EV facility. Rockford and Peoria offer opportunities with heavy equipment manufacturers like Caterpillar, while suburban Cook County hosts many automotive technology companies and tier-one suppliers that regularly sponsor international workers.
How do Illinois prevailing wages affect automotive visa applications?
Illinois Department of Labor sets competitive prevailing wages for automotive roles, particularly in Cook County where rates reflect Chicago's higher cost of living. Automotive engineers and specialists in electric vehicle development typically qualify for higher wage levels, strengthening H-1B applications. Manufacturing roles in central Illinois often have lower prevailing wage requirements than Chicago metro positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automotive jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
