Which electronics companies in Illinois sponsor work visas?
Major electronics visa sponsors in Illinois include Motorola Solutions (Chicago), Abbott for medical devices, Caterpillar's electronics division (Peoria), Boeing's avionics systems, and Zebra Technologies (Lincolnshire). Chicago-area startups and mid-size firms in IoT, semiconductors, and automation also regularly sponsor H-1B visa and other work visas for engineers and specialized technical roles.
How to find electronics visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Use Migrate Mate to search electronics positions specifically filtered for Illinois visa sponsorship opportunities. The platform shows verified sponsoring employers across Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, and other Illinois tech hubs, with detailed information about company sponsorship history and visa types commonly filed for electronics engineers and technical specialists.
What visa types are most common for electronics jobs in Illinois?
H-1B visas dominate for electronics engineers, embedded systems developers, and hardware design roles in Illinois. O-1 visas are used for senior engineers with extraordinary expertise in semiconductors or advanced manufacturing. L-1 visas are common for international electronics companies with Illinois operations, while TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican engineers.
Which Illinois cities have the most electronics visa sponsorship opportunities?
Chicago leads with companies like Motorola Solutions, Zebra Technologies, and numerous electronics startups. Peoria offers opportunities with Caterpillar's electronic systems division. Schaumburg hosts electronics manufacturers and automation companies. The Champaign-Urbana area provides positions with university-affiliated research companies and tech transfer ventures in electronics.
Are prevailing wages different for electronics roles across Illinois regions?
Yes, Chicago area electronics positions typically command higher prevailing wages due to cost of living and competition for talent. Downstate regions like Peoria and Rockford often have lower prevailing wage requirements for similar roles, making visa sponsorship more cost-effective for employers while still offering competitive compensation packages.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electronics jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
