Which accounting companies sponsor TN visas in Illinois?
The Big Four firms, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and Ernst & Young, have significant Chicago offices and a documented history of sponsoring TN visas for Canadian and Mexican accounting professionals. Mid-sized regional firms like Grant Thornton and BDO also operate out of Chicago. Beyond public accounting, Illinois-based corporate employers such as Boeing, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and United Airlines maintain internal accounting and finance teams that have hired TN workers.
Which cities in Illinois have the most accounting TN sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of accounting TN sponsorship opportunities in Illinois, driven by its concentration of public accounting firms, financial services companies, and Fortune 500 corporate headquarters. The suburbs immediately west and north of the city, including Schaumburg, Deerfield, and Oak Brook, also host regional offices and corporate finance departments. Outside the Chicago metro area, accounting TN roles are considerably less common.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship?
Under the TN visa category, Accountant is a listed profession, and qualifying roles generally require a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in accounting or a closely related field. Positions such as staff accountant, senior accountant, financial analyst with accounting duties, internal auditor, tax associate, and controller regularly appear in TN petitions. Roles that primarily involve bookkeeping or clerical financial tasks, without a degree requirement, typically do not qualify.
How do I find accounting TN sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for professionals who need visa sponsorship, including TN visa holders. You can filter by visa type, industry, and state to surface accounting TN sponsorship jobs in Illinois without sorting through listings from employers who do not sponsor. This is particularly useful for Canadian and Mexican accountants targeting Chicago-area firms, where competition is high and knowing which employers actively sponsor saves significant time.
Are there state-specific considerations for accounting TN sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois requires Certified Public Accountants to hold an Illinois CPA license for certain client-facing or attestation work, separate from TN visa eligibility. Canadian and Mexican accountants working in Illinois under TN status may need to evaluate whether their home-country designation, such as a CPA Canada designation, qualifies them for Illinois licensure through reciprocity. TN status itself does not confer any CPA license, so professionals should confirm licensing requirements with the Illinois Board of Examiners before accepting a role.
