Search Insurance Jobs in IowaInsurance Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which insurance companies in Iowa typically sponsor work visas?
Principal Financial Group leads visa sponsorship in Iowa's insurance sector, followed by Allied Insurance and Farm Bureau Financial Services. These Des Moines-based companies regularly sponsor H-1B visas for actuarial scientists, data analysts, and software engineers. Smaller regional carriers like EMCASCO Insurance and GuideOne Insurance also occasionally sponsor visas for specialized technical roles.
What visa types are most common for insurance jobs in Iowa?
H-1B visas dominate insurance sponsorship in Iowa, particularly for actuarial positions, data science roles, and IT specialists supporting insurance operations. O-1 visas are occasionally used for senior actuaries with exceptional qualifications. L-1 visas apply when international insurance companies transfer employees to their Iowa operations, though this is less common than H-1B sponsorship.
How to find insurance visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international candidates with Iowa insurance employers who sponsor visas. Focus your search on Des Moines, where Principal Financial Group and other major insurers maintain headquarters. Target actuarial roles, risk management positions, and insurance technology jobs, as these functions most commonly receive visa sponsorship from Iowa-based insurance companies.
Which cities in Iowa have the most insurance visa sponsorship opportunities?
Des Moines dominates Iowa's insurance sponsorship market, hosting Principal Financial Group, Allied Insurance, and dozens of regional carriers. Cedar Rapids offers secondary opportunities through companies like AEGON and Transamerica. Smaller cities like Grinnell and West Des Moines also feature insurance operations, but Des Moines accounts for roughly 80% of all visa sponsorship activity in Iowa's insurance sector.
Are there specific considerations for insurance visa sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa's insurance companies often prefer candidates with strong quantitative backgrounds due to heavy emphasis on actuarial work and risk modeling. The state's relatively lower cost of living can make prevailing wage requirements easier to meet compared to coastal markets. Many Iowa insurers have partnerships with Iowa State University and University of Iowa, creating pathways for international graduates in mathematics, statistics, and business programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored insurance jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
