Which automotive companies sponsor H-1B visas in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts-based automotive H-1B visa sponsors tend to cluster around autonomous vehicle technology, EV systems, and connected vehicle software rather than traditional assembly. Companies such as Aptiv, Mobileye, Waymo's regional offices, and automotive-adjacent tech firms with Massachusetts operations have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications through the Department of Labor. Tier-1 suppliers and university-linked spinoffs in the Route 128 corridor also appear in DOL disclosure data as recurring sponsors.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most automotive H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Greater Boston, including Cambridge and Somerville, concentrates the most automotive H-1B activity in Massachusetts, driven by proximity to MIT and a dense cluster of mobility-tech startups. Waltham and Burlington along the Route 128 technology corridor also host automotive engineering and software offices. Worcester has a smaller but growing presence tied to advanced manufacturing and mechatronics research connected to WPI.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in the automotive sector requires the position to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning it must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Roles that consistently qualify include autonomous systems engineers, embedded software developers, machine learning engineers for perception and ADAS, vehicle dynamics simulation engineers, and electrical engineers specializing in powertrain or battery management systems. General technician or production roles typically do not meet the specialty occupation threshold.
How do I find automotive H-1B sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, including H-1B, and by industry, so you can search automotive roles in Massachusetts without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Beyond using Migrate Mate, reviewing DOL OFLC disclosure data lets you identify which Massachusetts employers have filed LCAs for automotive job titles historically, giving you a targeted list of companies worth approaching directly.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for H-1B automotive sponsorship?
Massachusetts has no state-level visa program, so federal H-1B rules apply uniformly. However, the state's strong research ecosystem means many automotive H-1B roles are tied to R&D rather than production, which can affect prevailing wage determinations since DOL wage levels for research-oriented titles differ from manufacturing equivalents. Massachusetts also has active STEM hiring pipelines through MIT, Northeastern, and WPI co-op programs, which means some employers prefer OPT-to-H-1B pathways and are experienced with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B automotive jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
