Which education employers in Massachusetts sponsor H-1B visas?
Massachusetts has a high concentration of H-1B visa sponsors in education. Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern University, Tufts University, and UMass Amherst are among the most active filers. Beyond universities, edtech companies headquartered in the Boston area and large K-12 charter networks have also sponsored H-1B workers in instructional and administrative roles.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most education H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of education H-1B sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, driven by their dense cluster of universities and research institutions. Worcester is a secondary hub, home to Clark University, Holy Cross, and WPI. Springfield and Amherst also see sponsorship activity tied to the UMass system and smaller liberal arts colleges.
What types of education roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Massachusetts?
H-1B sponsorship in education generally applies to roles that require a specialized bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. In Massachusetts, this commonly includes university faculty and research positions, instructional designers, curriculum developers, data analysts in higher education, and edtech product or engineering roles. General K-12 teaching positions at public schools are less commonly sponsored under H-1B.
How do I find education H-1B sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters jobs by visa type, industry, and state, making it straightforward to browse education H-1B sponsorship opportunities in Massachusetts. Rather than sorting through listings that don't indicate sponsorship, Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have a documented history of H-1B filings, saving significant research time for candidates in the education sector.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in Massachusetts education?
Massachusetts has strong public records around university hiring, and many institutions are subject to state transparency requirements that make their H-1B filing histories accessible through Department of Labor disclosure data. Private universities in Massachusetts are cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning they can file petitions year-round without being subject to the annual lottery, which is a meaningful practical advantage for international candidates pursuing faculty or research roles.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B education jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
