The Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating design tasks, conducting analyses, preparing engineering drawings and specifications, and assisting in client communications and project documentation.
Working within an engineering consulting firm, the Project Engineer collaborates closely with internal teams, subconsultants, and clients to provide innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective engineering solutions. The role requires a solid understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, including site development, grading and drainage, utilities, roadway and transportation systems, and water resources.
Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
- Perform detailed civil design for residential, commercial, and industrial site development projects, including grading, drainage, roadway alignment, and utility layouts. Prepare engineering drawings, technical reports, and construction documents in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Support land development and site improvement projects by conducting site feasibility analyses, preparing conceptual site layouts, and developing grading and drainage plans that balance project goals, environmental considerations, and regulatory compliance.
- Design and coordinate on-site and off-site improvements for water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. Develop calculations, cost estimates, and design documentation to support permit applications and construction packages.
- Integrate sustainable design principles and climate adaptation strategies into projects, including green infrastructure, low-impact development (LID), stormwater quality improvements, and resiliency measures.
- Provide construction-phase support, including review of submittals and RFIs, coordination with contractors, and field observation to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with other technical disciplines—including environmental scientists, structural engineers, planners, and surveyors—to deliver integrated solutions across all project phases from feasibility studies to permitting, final design, and construction support.
- Conduct work in accordance with company procedures, applicable legislation, and industry standards. Ensure deliverables meet internal quality control requirements and client expectations.
- Pursue continuous professional development, staying current with evolving civil engineering practices, design tools, codes, and sustainability trends. Maintain active involvement in professional organizations and training programs as appropriate.
- Adhere to and promote company health and safety policies. Work in a safe manner at all times and promptly report any safety incidents or concerns.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required to support project success and team objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with 5-10 years of experience.

- Active and clear driver’s license, including a successful clearance of a Motor Vehicle history check.
Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks, attending meetings, or preparing design documentation.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, printers, and other office equipment.
- Visual acuity to review detailed drawings, specifications, and computer screens for extended periods.
- Ability to clearly communicate through speech, hearing, and written correspondence in person, virtually, and via telephone.
- Ability to travel to and from project sites, client meetings, and other offices as required.
- Physical capability to walk, stand, climb stairs or ladders, and navigate uneven terrain, active construction sites, and partially completed structures.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials, drawings, or equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Capacity to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, and steel-toed boots when required.
- Tolerance for varying environmental conditions, including exposure to weather, noise, and dust during site visits.

Tips for Finding TN Sponsorship Jobs in Massachusetts
Target the life sciences corridor
Massachusetts hosts one of the largest concentrations of biotech and pharmaceutical employers in the world, particularly around Cambridge and the Kendall Square area. Many of these firms regularly hire TN-eligible scientists, engineers, and analysts.
Look beyond Boston proper
Worcester, Lowell, and Springfield each have growing employer bases in healthcare and manufacturing. TN-eligible professionals who limit their search to Boston may miss strong sponsoring employers in these secondary metro markets.
Prioritize research institutions and universities
Massachusetts has an unusually high density of universities and research hospitals, including MIT and Harvard-affiliated institutions. These organizations frequently hire TN-eligible roles in research, computer science, and engineering disciplines.
Use a visa-filtered job board to save time
Generic job boards don't filter by TN sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for TN sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts, so you're not wasting applications on employers who won't sponsor your visa category.
Match your NOC occupation code to the job description
TN eligibility depends on your role matching a listed USMCA occupation. In Massachusetts's competitive tech and biotech markets, job titles can be creative. Verify the role description maps to a qualifying TN occupation before applying.
Engage employers who have sponsored TN visas before
Large Massachusetts employers in healthcare, technology, and financial services have established immigration processes and legal teams familiar with TN sponsorship. Targeting these organizations typically leads to smoother, faster sponsorship experiences than approaching first-time sponsors.

Which industries in Massachusetts sponsor the most TN visas?
Life sciences, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals lead TN visa sponsorship in Massachusetts, driven by the concentration of employers in and around Cambridge. Technology and software companies along the Route 128 corridor are also significant sponsors, as are the state's research universities, teaching hospitals, and engineering firms. Financial services companies in Boston represent another active sponsorship cluster.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most TN sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge together account for the majority of TN sponsorship opportunities in Massachusetts, particularly in biotech, healthcare, finance, and technology. Waltham and Burlington along Route 128 are major hubs for technology and life sciences employers. Worcester is the leading secondary market, with a growing healthcare and manufacturing base that includes TN-eligible roles.
What types of roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship in Massachusetts?
In Massachusetts, the most common TN-qualifying roles fall into engineering, computer systems analysis, scientific research, accounting, and management consulting. The state's biotech sector creates strong demand for biochemists, microbiologists, and pharmacists. Research universities frequently sponsor mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists. Healthcare systems sponsor medical professionals in qualifying clinical and scientific roles.
How do I find TN sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for TN sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts, since the platform filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor your visa type. You can search by industry, city, or occupation to focus on roles where you already meet TN eligibility requirements. Targeting employers with established immigration programs in life sciences, tech, and healthcare significantly improves your chances of a smooth process.
Are there any state-specific considerations for TN sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements, so TN sponsorship follows standard federal USMCA rules. That said, the state's highly competitive professional labor market means employers tend to move quickly when hiring. Having your TN documentation ready before an offer is extended, including your credential evaluations and occupation classification rationale, can prevent delays when a sponsoring employer is ready to proceed.
