Which science and research companies sponsor H-1B visas in Minnesota?
Minnesota's largest H-1B visa sponsors in science and research include Medtronic, Boston Scientific, 3M, Cargill, and Corteva Agriscience. The University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic also file H-1B petitions regularly for research positions. These organizations cover a wide range of disciplines, from biomedical engineering and computational biology to agricultural science and materials research.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most science and research H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The Twin Cities metro area, particularly Minneapolis and Saint Paul, concentrates the majority of science and research H-1B roles in Minnesota, driven by corporate headquarters, research hospitals, and the University of Minnesota. Rochester is a secondary hub due to Mayo Clinic's substantial research operations. Smaller concentrations exist in Arden Hills and Maple Grove, where medical device and life sciences companies maintain facilities.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that commonly qualify require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific scientific field directly tied to the position. In Minnesota, these include research scientists, biomedical engineers, clinical research associates, computational biologists, chemists, and agricultural research specialists. The H-1B specialty occupation standard requires that the degree field be directly relevant to the job duties, not just any bachelor's degree.
How do I find science & research H-1B sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship type and industry, making it straightforward to browse science and research roles in Minnesota where employers have indicated H-1B sponsorship. Rather than sorting through general job boards that don't distinguish sponsorship-willing employers, Migrate Mate surfaces listings relevant to international candidates pursuing H-1B positions in Minnesota's research and life sciences sector.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific factors to consider for H-1B sponsorship in Minnesota's science sector?
Minnesota's medical device and agricultural biotechnology industries operate in highly regulated environments, which means employers are generally experienced with professional visa sponsorship processes. Research roles tied to federal grants at institutions like the University of Minnesota may involve additional compliance requirements. Academic and nonprofit research employers classified as cap-exempt can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery, which expands hiring flexibility.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B science & research jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
