Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor H-1B visas in Minnesota?
Honeywell's Minneapolis campus, Collins Aerospace in Burnsville, and Lockheed Martin's facilities in the Twin Cities are among the most active H-1B sponsors in Minnesota's aerospace and defense sector. Smaller defense contractors and aerospace suppliers in the region also file H-1B petitions, particularly for engineering and technical roles that require specialized bachelor's or advanced degrees.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area accounts for the large majority of aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship activity in Minnesota. Burnsville, Bloomington, and Plymouth host several major defense and aerospace facilities. Rochester has a smaller but growing presence tied to precision manufacturing and defense-adjacent engineering work.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules typically require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field. In aerospace and defense, this includes aerospace engineers, systems engineers, avionics engineers, software developers working on defense systems, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers. Program management roles may also qualify when they require a technical degree specific to the position.
How do I find aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings specifically by visa type and industry, so you can browse verified aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. Given the concentration of employers in the Twin Cities metro, filtering by Minnesota and the aerospace and defense category on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify active openings from sponsoring employers.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in Minnesota's aerospace and defense sector?
Many Minnesota aerospace and defense employers work on government contracts that require security clearances. A security clearance is separate from H-1B status and is adjudicated by federal agencies, not employers. Some cleared positions are restricted to U.S. citizens or permanent residents by contract, which can limit H-1B eligibility for specific roles even at companies that otherwise sponsor. It's worth confirming clearance requirements before applying to defense-specific positions.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B aerospace & defense jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
