Which accounting companies sponsor H-1B visas in Minnesota?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, EY, and KPMG, all maintain offices in the Twin Cities and have documented H-1B visa filing histories for accounting roles. Beyond public accounting, large Minnesota-headquartered corporations such as UnitedHealth Group, Target, 3M, and U.S. Bancorp sponsor H-1B petitions for in-house accounting and finance professionals. Regional CPA firms also sponsor, though less frequently than national firms.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and St. Paul account for the overwhelming majority of accounting H-1B sponsorship activity in Minnesota. The Minneapolis central business district and its surrounding suburbs, particularly Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Bloomington, host corporate headquarters and large professional services offices that file the most H-1B petitions. Rochester sees some activity tied to Mayo Clinic's finance operations, but the Twin Cities metro is by far the primary market.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that consistently qualify include public accounting positions such as audit associate, tax associate, and assurance analyst, as well as corporate roles like financial reporting analyst, management accountant, and internal auditor. The H-1B requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a directly related field must be a standard requirement for that specific role. General bookkeeping roles that do not require a specific degree typically do not qualify.
How do I find accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter accounting jobs in Minnesota by H-1B sponsorship so you see only employers with a documented history of filing petitions. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship later. Migrate Mate's listings cover both public accounting firms and corporate in-house roles across the Twin Cities metro and other Minnesota markets, updated regularly to reflect current openings.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in accounting?
Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters means many accounting H-1B petitions come from large corporations with established immigration programs and in-house legal teams, which can make the process more straightforward than working with a smaller employer filing for the first time. Minnesota also has no state-level restrictions on H-1B employment. CPA licensure in Minnesota requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting state board requirements, which are separate from and do not affect H-1B eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B accounting jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
