Which sports companies and organizations in Minnesota sponsor H-1B visas?
Minnesota's professional sports franchises are among the most active H-1B visa sponsors in the state's sports sector. The Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Wild, and Minnesota United FC have each filed Labor Condition Applications for specialized roles. The University of Minnesota and other Big Ten institutions also sponsor H-1B workers in athletic departments, sports medicine, and performance science positions. Larger franchises with dedicated analytics and technology divisions tend to file most consistently.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most sports H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The Twin Cities metro, specifically Minneapolis and Saint Paul, concentrates the overwhelming majority of sports H-1B sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. Professional franchises, their corporate headquarters, and major sports venues are all based in this metro area. Rochester sees some activity through sports medicine and athletic rehabilitation roles tied to its healthcare sector. Smaller markets like Duluth and St. Cloud have limited H-1B sports sponsorship activity outside collegiate athletics.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Minnesota?
H-1B eligibility requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it must normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. In Minnesota's sports industry, roles that commonly meet this standard include sports analytics and data science positions, sports medicine physicians and physical therapists, biomechanics researchers, marketing and digital strategy professionals, sports business operations roles, and performance technology specialists. General coaching, officiating, and entry-level operations roles typically do not meet the specialty occupation threshold.
How do I find sports H-1B sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter for H-1B sponsorship jobs in Minnesota's sports industry in one place. Because Migrate Mate indexes employer LCA filing history from DOL disclosure data, you can see which Minnesota sports organizations have actually filed H-1B petitions for roles matching your background, rather than relying on job postings that may not reflect a company's true sponsorship history. Start your search filtered by state, visa type, and the sports and recreation industry category.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in sports?
Minnesota's sports organizations operate across a mix of for-profit franchises and nonprofit or university entities, which affects H-1B filing patterns. Cap-exempt employers, such as the University of Minnesota, can file H-1B petitions year-round without being subject to the annual lottery, offering more predictable timelines. For-profit franchises like the Vikings or Twins must file within the annual cap, making timing critical. Minnesota's strong healthcare ecosystem also means sports medicine and rehabilitation roles sometimes intersect with hospital-affiliated employers that have their own sponsorship infrastructure.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B sports jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
