Job Description:
Faculty members in this category are hired to perform a limited range of duties. Research Faculty members have the principal assignments of conducting research. Research Faculty members may contribute to the University beyond this narrow definition, but their promotion guidelines and annual reviews should emphasize the primary duties. Research Faculty do not accrue tenure but are eligible for promotion. While in some cases renewal of appointment is subject to availability of research funds, Research Faculty members should have the expectation of continuing employment unless notified otherwise at the time of their appointment. Persons holding the title Research (Assistant, Associate) Professor may be eligible to exercise the responsibilities of Associate Graduate Faculty. The following ranks exist for Research Faculty.
NCCRE Clinical Research Assistant Professor
Project Management: Initiates, plans, executes, monitors, and completes projects related to processes, procedures, and systems on time and within budget, with a specified beginning and end. Evaluates and consults to improve quality of results and process improvement.
Clinical Research Assistant Professor will actively monitor the clinical research landscape for needs assessment in the realm of cannabinoids as medicine. Prepare educational materials and deliver content via conferences, webinars, newsletters, online learnings, etc. Identify federal, state, and industry funding opportunities and write and submit grant proposals. Liaise with national and local pharmacy professional organizations regularly and prepare status reports. Lead NCCRE’s team of experts on medical cannabis qualifying conditions in the state of MS and help guide decisions. Supervisor duties to include managing one direct report, the NCCRE Program Manager, but may include others, based on expansion of NCCRE’s staff in the future.
Relationship Building: Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with HCPs, including physicians, researchers, and other medical professionals.
Scientific Exchange: Providing scientific and clinical information about cannabinoid products, research, and therapeutic areas, engaging in peer-to-peer discussions.
Medical Conference Participation: Attending and presenting at medical conferences, sharing research findings, and engaging with the medical community.
Staying Current: Maintaining a strong understanding of scientific and clinical developments in the cannabis arena, including staying up-to-date on research, publications, and other US-based cannabis center activities.
Compliance: Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with UM policies, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements.
Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effectively communicating complex scientific information.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are needed to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
Clinical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of cannabinoid science and how cannabis is used as medicine.
Presentation Skills: Ability to present scientific information clearly and concisely to various audiences.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret scientific and clinical research data.
Integrity and Ethics: Adherence to high ethical standards and compliance with regulations.
Education: Registered US Pharmacist and/or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (preferred)
Experience: Two years experience related to the above job responsibilities and tasks.
Location: School of Pharmacy Campus (can be based in either Oxford or Jackson)

Job Responsibilities:
Support research activities and investigators in studies advocated by NCCRE.
- Assist in study design.
- Provide pharmaceutical information and guidance.
- Assist in preparation and submission of Investigational New Drug (IND) applications.
- Record and analyze data.
- Prepare reports.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication.
Provide education and training programs on medical cannabis research studies and evidence-based medicine.
- Develop and manage programs for patients and medical professionals.
- Supervise program personnel.
- Provide pharmacist engagement at events.
Seek funding for cannabis research studies.
- Search for grant opportunities.
- Recruit and organize potential investigators.
- Prepare grant proposals.
Represent NCCRE through memberships in professional pharmacy associations.
- Maintain active memberships in national professional pharmacy organizations such as APhA, ASHP, ACCP; will also be active in MS-based pharmacy orgs, such as MPHA, MSHP, etc.
- Offer leadership in medical cannabis issues.
Prepare and maintain medical cannabis information repository.
- Review current and future cannabis research literature, clinical studies, and clinical trials.
- Provide reports on research.
- Maintain catalog of NCCRE research activities.
Serve as NCCRE liaison to state medical and pharmacy boards and organizations.
- Establish regular communications.
- Provide presentations and information for both public and non-public meetings.
