Which accounting companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Nebraska?
In Nebraska, the accounting employers most associated with F-1 OPT sponsorship include the Big Four firms with Omaha offices, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, along with regional firms such as BKD and Lutz. Large corporations headquartered in Omaha, including Berkshire Hathaway subsidiaries and several Fortune 500 insurers, also hire international accounting graduates through OPT. Employer sponsorship willingness varies by role and year, so confirming OPT acceptance directly with the employer is important.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Omaha concentrates the majority of accounting F-1 OPT opportunities in Nebraska, driven by its dense financial services sector and Big Four presence. Lincoln, home to state government agencies and the University of Nebraska system, offers a secondary market, particularly in public accounting and internal audit roles. Smaller markets like Grand Island and Kearney have limited accounting employer depth and fewer documented OPT sponsorships compared to the two major metros.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that most commonly qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Nebraska accounting include external audit associate, tax associate, financial analyst, internal auditor, and cost accountant positions. These roles generally require a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a related field, aligning with OPT's requirement that employment be directly related to your field of study. Clerical bookkeeping positions that do not require a degree are less likely to qualify under OPT's practical training criteria.
How do I find accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate lets you filter accounting jobs in Nebraska specifically by F-1 OPT sponsorship, showing employers with verified sponsorship history so you aren't applying blindly. Beyond the platform, attending accounting career fairs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Creighton University in Omaha connects you directly with recruiters from firms that actively hire international graduates. Confirming OPT eligibility with each employer's HR team before applying is always advisable.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for F-1 OPT accounting sponsorship?
Nebraska does not impose state-level licensing barriers unique to international graduates, but CPA licensure requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting the Nebraska Board of Public Accountancy's education and experience requirements, which apply to all candidates regardless of visa status. STEM OPT extension is not available for standard accounting programs unless the degree is classified under a STEM-designated CIP code, so verifying your program's classification with your DSO before OPT expires is important for planning your work authorization timeline.
