Which medical devices companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Nebraska?
Nebraska-based employers with medical devices operations include Streck, a diagnostics and laboratory products company headquartered in La Vista, along with BD (Becton Dickinson) and Baxter, which have distribution and regional operations in the state. Larger healthcare systems like Nebraska Medicine also employ medical devices professionals. OPT authorization is employer-driven, so sponsorship patterns vary by company size and hiring needs at any given time.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most medical devices F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the majority of medical devices F-1 OPT opportunities in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of healthcare systems, diagnostics companies, and life sciences employers. Lincoln, home to the University of Nebraska and several biotech-adjacent firms, is a secondary market. Smaller cities like Grand Island and Kearney have limited medical devices hiring and fewer OPT-sponsoring employers.
What types of medical devices roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly align with F-1 OPT in the medical devices sector include quality engineering, regulatory affairs, manufacturing engineering, R&D, applications engineering, and biomedical engineering. These positions typically require a degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. Roles requiring licensure or long-term work authorization commitments may be less accessible to OPT candidates with shorter authorization windows.
How do I find medical devices F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type, including F-1 OPT, and by industry, so you can search medical devices roles in Nebraska without sorting through listings that don't sponsor. Beyond Migrate Mate, targeting Omaha-based employers directly and attending University of Nebraska career fairs can surface opportunities that aren't broadly advertised. Networking with OPT alumni in the medical devices sector is also an effective approach.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for F-1 OPT sponsorship in medical devices?
Nebraska's medical devices sector is smaller than states like Minnesota or California, which means fewer total openings but also less competition among OPT candidates. Many local employers are mid-sized companies less familiar with OPT authorization requirements, so being prepared to explain your work authorization, STEM OPT extension eligibility, and E-Verify compliance can help move conversations forward. STEM OPT extensions require the employer to be E-Verify enrolled, which is worth confirming early in the process.
