Which waste management and environmental services companies sponsor H-1B visas in New York?
Several large firms operating in New York have filed H-1B petitions for waste management and environmental roles. These include Veolia North America, Clean Earth, Covanta Energy, and AECOM, which handles environmental remediation projects across the state. Smaller environmental consulting firms and municipal contractors also sponsor H-1B workers, particularly for roles requiring specialized engineering or environmental science credentials.
Which cities in New York have the most waste management and environmental services H-1B sponsorship jobs?
New York City concentrates the highest volume of H-1B sponsorship activity in this sector, driven by the city's large-scale municipal waste contracts and environmental compliance operations. Albany sees demand tied to state government-linked environmental programs and consulting. Buffalo and Syracuse have growing activity around industrial remediation and infrastructure projects, and the Hudson Valley corridor draws environmental assessment and cleanup work from both private firms and federal Superfund sites.
What types of waste management and environmental services roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in this industry generally applies to specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Qualifying roles commonly include environmental engineers, civil engineers specializing in solid waste, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, hazardous materials specialists, and GIS analysts supporting remediation mapping. Project management and regulatory compliance positions may also qualify when the role requires a degree in environmental policy, engineering, or a directly related discipline.
How do I find waste management and environmental services H-1B sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter by visa type, state, and industry to surface H-1B sponsoring employers in New York's waste management and environmental services sector. Rather than sorting through postings that don't address sponsorship at all, Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with a demonstrated history of H-1B filings, saving significant research time for candidates in this specialized field.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in waste management and environmental services?
New York's Department of Environmental Conservation enforces some of the country's stricter environmental regulations, which increases demand for credentialed professionals but also means employers often require state-specific licensure alongside federal qualifications. Candidates should note that professional engineer licensure in New York is separate from H-1B approval. Some remediation and permitting roles require state licensing before full employment begins, so confirming licensure eligibility early in the process is important.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B waste management & environmental services jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
