Which cybersecurity companies sponsor H-1B visas in North Carolina?
Several large employers in North Carolina have documented H-1B sponsorship activity in cybersecurity, including Cisco Systems, IBM, Lenovo (which has its North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park), SAS Institute, and Bank of America in Charlotte. Federal contractors and managed security service providers concentrated around the Raleigh-Durham area also regularly file H-1B petitions for cybersecurity roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by employer size, project pipeline, and hiring cycle.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most cybersecurity H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Raleigh and Durham, anchored by Research Triangle Park, account for the highest concentration of cybersecurity H-1B sponsorship activity in North Carolina. Charlotte is the second major market, driven by its large financial services and fintech sector, which has substantial demand for security analysts and compliance-focused security engineers. Cary and Morrisville, both within the Research Triangle corridor, also see meaningful sponsorship volume from technology and software firms.
What types of cybersecurity roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship applies to specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. In cybersecurity, roles that commonly meet this standard include information security analysts, penetration testers, security architects, cloud security engineers, threat intelligence analysts, and identity and access management engineers. Roles where a generalist degree satisfies the requirement regardless of field may face greater scrutiny from USCIS when it comes to specialty occupation classification.
How do I find cybersecurity H-1B sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type (H-1B), industry (cybersecurity), and state (North Carolina) to see roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. This saves time compared to manually screening job postings that rarely disclose visa sponsorship status upfront. Migrate Mate aggregates cybersecurity H-1B opportunities across North Carolina's major markets, including the Research Triangle and Charlotte.
Are there any state-specific considerations for cybersecurity H-1B sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's cybersecurity job market has a notable defense and federal contracting component, particularly around Raleigh-Durham. Some positions at federal contractors require security clearances, which are generally available only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents, making those specific roles inaccessible on H-1B status. Candidates should confirm whether a posted role involves classified work or clearance requirements before applying, as the H-1B visa does not itself confer clearance eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B cybersecurity jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
