Tips for Finding H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in North Carolina
Target Research Triangle employers directly
The Research Triangle Park corridor, spanning Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, houses major H-1B sponsors including pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations, and tech firms. Direct outreach to these employers often reaches hiring managers before postings go public.
Focus on specialty occupation alignment
H-1B approval in North Carolina hinges on demonstrating your role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a specific bachelor's degree. Roles in software engineering, clinical research, financial analysis, and life sciences consistently meet this standard at state employers.
Search for H-1B sponsorship jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship isn't on offer. Searching by North Carolina location surfaces verified H-1B opportunities across the state's major hiring corridors.
Prioritize large pharma and CRO employers in the Triangle
Companies such as Novo Nordisk, Syneos Health, and Quintiles have historically been among North Carolina's highest-volume H-1B filers. Larger organizations typically have established immigration counsel and structured sponsorship processes, reducing uncertainty during the petition stage.
Don't overlook Charlotte's financial services sector
Charlotte is one of the largest banking hubs in the United States, with Bank of America and Wells Fargo both headquartered there. Technology, risk, and compliance roles at these institutions frequently qualify for H-1B sponsorship and represent a distinct opportunity from the Triangle's life sciences concentration.
Check university and academic medical center postings
Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, and their affiliated health systems are cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning they can file petitions year-round without lottery exposure. Research, clinical, and technology roles at these institutions offer a more predictable sponsorship pathway.

What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
