Which construction companies sponsor H-1B visas in North Carolina?
Large general contractors and engineering-construction firms are the most consistent H-1B visa sponsors in North Carolina. Companies including Balfour Beatty, Skanska, and Brasfield & Gorrie have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications for North Carolina roles. ENR-ranked firms working on major state infrastructure and commercial projects tend to have dedicated HR processes for international hires, making them more likely to support sponsorship than smaller regional contractors.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most construction H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte leads the state for construction H-1B activity, driven by sustained commercial development and corporate headquarters relocations fueling large-scale building projects. The Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) follows closely, with university expansion, life sciences campuses, and state government infrastructure generating demand. Greensboro and Winston-Salem in the Triad also see activity tied to manufacturing facility construction and logistics development.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in construction is generally limited to roles classified as specialty occupations, meaning positions that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Civil engineers, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, construction project managers with engineering degrees, and building information modeling (BIM) specialists are among the roles North Carolina employers have sponsored. On-site trade or craft positions typically do not meet the specialty occupation standard and are not eligible.
How do I find construction H-1B sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for H-1B sponsorship and filters listings by visa type, industry, and state, making it straightforward to browse construction roles in North Carolina without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because H-1B sponsorship in construction is concentrated among larger firms, filtering by company size and past LCA filings on Migrate Mate helps narrow your search to employers with a demonstrated sponsorship track record.
Are there any North Carolina-specific considerations for H-1B construction jobs?
North Carolina requires licensed engineers (PE license) for certain project oversight roles, so international candidates should verify whether their degree and experience meet the state licensing board's requirements, which may involve credential evaluation. The state's active infrastructure investment, including NCDOT highway expansion and Research Triangle research campus buildouts, means project-based hiring can be cyclical. Candidates with backgrounds in civil infrastructure or advanced construction technology tend to align well with the state's current pipeline of publicly funded projects.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B construction jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
