Bayer Crop Science in Fargo is the largest biotech employer offering visa sponsorship, focusing on agricultural biotechnology and crop protection. North Dakota State University also sponsors visas for research scientists and postdocs in agricultural biotechnology programs. Smaller agricultural biotech startups and contract research organizations occasionally sponsor H-1B visas for specialized roles in plant genetics and agricultural chemistry.

Which cities in North Dakota have the most biotech & pharma sponsorship jobs?
Fargo dominates North Dakota's biotech employment, hosting Bayer Crop Science facilities and North Dakota State University's agricultural research programs. Grand Forks offers limited opportunities through the University of North Dakota's medical research initiatives. Minot and Bismarck have minimal biotech presence, with most pharmaceutical-related roles being in healthcare delivery rather than research or development.
Which visa types are most common for biotech & pharma roles in North Dakota?
H-1B visas are most common for research scientists and regulatory affairs specialists in North Dakota's agricultural biotech sector. J-1 visas support postdoctoral researchers at NDSU and UND. What are prevailing wage considerations for biotech jobs in North Dakota?
North Dakota's prevailing wages for biotech roles are typically lower than coastal biotech hubs but competitive within the agricultural sector. Research scientist positions in Fargo average below national biotech medians but offer lower cost of living. University positions at NDSU often provide competitive packages when including benefits, though base wages may be modest compared to industry roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored biotech & pharma jobs in North Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
