An exciting career awaits you
At MPC, we’re committed to being a great place to work – one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment.
Position Summary:
The Lead Enterprise Architect (EA) within the IT Performance Excellence team is a hands-on builder who understands MPC enterprise environments through the relationships between people, process, information, and the technologies that enable them. Through this understanding, the EA will not only define the current and future state but will also prove the path forward by doing—delivering practical, incremental architectural outcomes that teams can adopt and extend. The EA will be positioned within the EA Center of Excellence to develop and implement standards and architecture governance while actively partnering with delivery teams to introduce improvements in architecture, tooling, and ways of working.
The EA will focus and influence digital transformation roadmaps by establishing a clear strategy and operating model for how we manage and govern our enterprise architecture practice—primarily within the IT Performance Excellence domain and, as priorities shift, across other functional/architectural domains. This role succeeds through influence, not authority: connecting the dots across stakeholders, creating shared understanding, and bringing others along as a trusted partner. The EA will partner closely with other architects, technology leaders, and business stakeholders to align to MPC strategic priorities, improve the quality and usability of architecture repositories, and champion data-driven decisions that advance our digital strategy. The EA will also mentor and enable others—teaching teams how to apply standards and patterns in real work and incrementally building a stronger EA practice and community of architects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and drive the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for the entire organization.
- Lead the integration of primary architecture domains (Business, Application, Technology, Information and Security) across business units, major programs and value streams (end-to-end processes).
- Influence and shape enterprise-wide technology investment decisions, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals and risk posture.
- Serve as the primary architectural authority for major transformation initiatives, mergers / acquisitions, and digital innovation programs, to include development and management of clear roadmaps, and assessment of technology options, tradeoffs, and risks.
- Leads architecture reviews as well as builds and leads communities of practice for architects and technical leaders, fostering a culture of innovation, monitoring industry trends and emerging technology, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Represent enterprise architecture in executive governance forums, steering committees, and external industry groups.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience required.
- Eight (8) or more years of relevant IT experience, or relevant Techno-functional experience, including five (5) or more years of relevant architecture experience, with demonstrated delivery of implemented solutions (not only strategy/roadmaps) required.
- Relevant IT Architecture experience as applied to the Office of CIO or IT Performance Excellence functional domains. Includes IT applications in support of Strategy Management, Operational Excellence, Portfolio Management, Product Management, Product Development Life Cycle, Agile, Business Process Management, Enterprise Architecture, Program & Project Management, Business Continuity, and enabling application platforms (including data quality within the CMDB) highly preferred.
- Experience influencing without authority, coaching/teaching teams, and incrementally building an architecture practice (standards, governance, and reusable patterns) that improves delivery outcomes highly preferred.
Skills:
- Analytical Thinking - Strong problem-solving skills to identify architectural challenges, analyze requirements, evaluate options, and propose effective solutions.
- Architecture Frameworks - Proficiency in widely used architecture frameworks like TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) or Zachman Framework to structure and organize architectural artifacts and processes.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions), and self-correction. AI encompasses a broad range of techniques and approaches, including machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and expert systems, among others. The ultimate goal of AI is to create machines that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as understanding natural language, recognizing patterns, making decisions, and solving problems.
- Authentic Communicator - Expresses ideas and information, both verbally and in writing, clearly and credibly. Listens to understand and fosters constructive dialogue.
- Business Acumen - Applies knowledge of MPC’s business, industry and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals. Makes decisions and recommendations clearly linked to MPC’s strategy.
- Cloud Computing - Knowing how to manage cloud services, develop cloud applications and use cloud architecture to meet customer needs.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset - Identifies and leads opportunities for continuous improvement and value creation, both incremental and large-scale.
- Builder / Practitioner Mindset - Demonstrates architecture through execution (e.g., pilots, reference implementations, templates, standards-as-code where applicable) and iterates based on feedback to deliver incremental value.
- Influence Without Authority - Builds alignment across business and technology stakeholders through facilitation, negotiation, and clear communication; brings others along to shared decisions and outcomes.
- Data Modeling - Skill in designing and implementing data models that align with business requirements, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability.
- Digital Transformation - Digital Transformation is the adoption of digital technology to transform services or businesses, through replacing non-digital or manual processes with digital processes or replacing older digital technology with newer digital technology.
- Functional Expertise - A strong understanding of various technologies, platforms, and systems relevant to the organization's architecture, such as networking, databases, cloud computing, and security.
- Machine Learning - Machine learning is a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer science that involves the development of algorithms and statistical models that enable computers to progressively improve their performance on a specific task through learning from data, without being explicitly programmed. In essence, machine learning algorithms learn from patterns and relationships in data to make predictions, decisions, or identify patterns, often with the goal of optimizing some objective function or improving performance over time.
- Process Orchestration - Process orchestration refers to the coordination and management of various tasks, activities, and resources within a workflow or business process. It involves organizing, sequencing, and automating individual tasks or sub-processes to ensure that the overall process operates smoothly and efficiently. Process orchestration typically involves integrating disparate systems, applications, and services to streamline operations and improve collaboration across different parts of an organization. It often employs workflow management tools, automation software, and integration platforms to facilitate communication, data exchange, and decision-making among different components of the process. The goal of process orchestration is to optimize the flow of work, minimize delays and bottlenecks, and enhance overall productivity and performance.
- Strategic Outlook - Examines issues, generates ideas, creates future scenarios and develops plans with a long-term perspective. Ensures short-term goals support long-term strategy and that organizational/functional strategy aligns with and supports MPC’s overall business strategy.
- Systems Thinking - The ability to analyze complex systems and understand their interdependencies, considering both technical and business aspects, to develop comprehensive and scalable architectures.

Which energy companies in Ohio sponsor Green Card visas?
Several large utilities and energy firms in Ohio have established records of sponsoring Green Card petitions. FirstEnergy, headquartered in Akron, and AEP Ohio, based in Columbus, are among the most active. Dominion Energy operates natural gas assets in the state and has sponsored green cards for technical roles. Smaller renewable energy developers and engineering contractors also sponsor, though less consistently than major utilities.
Which cities in Ohio have the most energy Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Columbus and Akron concentrate the most energy Green Card sponsorship activity, driven by utility headquarters and regional operations centers. Toledo has a notable presence in pipeline and natural gas infrastructure. Cleveland supports energy-adjacent engineering and corporate functions. Smaller cities like Chillicothe and Zanesville host power generation facilities where plant engineers and operations specialists have historically been sponsored.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Ohio?
Roles requiring specialized technical degrees are most commonly sponsored. Electrical engineers, power systems engineers, process engineers, and environmental compliance specialists appear frequently in Green Card filings from Ohio energy employers. Project managers overseeing grid infrastructure or renewable buildouts are also sponsored. Positions requiring a specific bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field are best positioned for employer-sponsored petitions.
How do I find energy Green Card sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship type and industry, making it straightforward to browse energy roles in Ohio where employers are open to Green Card sponsorship. Rather than sorting through general job postings manually, Migrate Mate surfaces positions relevant to your situation. Focusing your search on large utilities and engineering firms operating in Columbus, Akron, and Toledo will yield the most results.
Are there state-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in Ohio's energy sector?
Ohio's energy mix, which includes natural gas, coal, nuclear, and expanding renewables, creates demand for a wide range of specializations. The state's regulated utility structure means many large employers are stable, established organizations with HR infrastructure experienced in immigration sponsorship. Ohio does not impose additional state-level requirements on top of federal Green Card processes, but prevailing wage rules under the PERM process apply based on the specific Ohio metropolitan area where the role is located.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card energy jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
