Which energy companies in Texas sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Major operators such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and BP America have consistent OPT hiring records in Texas, particularly in Houston. Midstream companies like Enterprise Products Partners and Energy Transfer, plus engineering firms such as Wood and Jacobs, also appear in OFLC disclosure data as active F-1 OPT sponsors. Sponsorship patterns vary by role, department, and annual hiring cycles, so reviewing verified filing history for each employer is important before applying.
Which Texas cities have the most energy F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Houston accounts for the largest share of energy OPT sponsorships in Texas, driven by the concentration of upstream, midstream, and downstream operators alongside oilfield services firms. Midland and Odessa see strong demand during active Permian Basin drilling cycles, particularly for petroleum and reservoir engineers. Corpus Christi offers refining and LNG roles, while Austin and Dallas host a growing number of energy-technology and renewable-energy positions that also qualify under STEM OPT-eligible CIP codes.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Texas?
Roles qualify based on whether the position's Standard Occupational Classification code maps to a STEM-designated CIP code on the DHS STEM OPT extension list. In the Texas energy sector, commonly qualifying positions include petroleum engineers, chemical engineers, environmental scientists, data analysts supporting reservoir modeling, geoscientists, and electrical engineers working on grid or renewables projects. Job titles alone do not determine eligibility; the employer must confirm the role meets STEM OPT criteria and register with E-Verify before the extension is authorized.
How do I find energy F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and industry, so you can search for Texas energy positions where employers have a verified F-1 OPT sponsorship history rather than relying on unconfirmed job descriptions. You can narrow results by city, role type, and company to focus on Houston operators, Permian Basin firms, or clean-energy employers. Cross-referencing a company's OFLC filing data helps confirm whether their sponsorship activity is recent and active.
Are there any Texas-specific or energy-industry considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Texas has no state-level visa sponsorship requirements, but the energy industry's project-based hiring cycles mean sponsorship availability can shift with commodity prices and capital budgets. Employers in the oilfield services segment sometimes hire through staffing arrangements that may complicate OPT placement; USCIS requires a bona fide employer-employee relationship for OPT authorization. The 24-month STEM OPT extension requires the employer to be E-Verify enrolled and to submit a formal training plan using Form I-983, which some smaller Texas operators may not have established.
