Job Description
AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering in Middleton, WI.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create traffic microsimulation models using VISSIM to analyze existing and future conditions of highway corridors.
- Responsible for modeling requiring compiling multiple input sources that include traffic counts, origin-destination data, signal timing, speed data, and travel time data.
- Calibrate the models including adjusting parameters to match collected field data following WisDOT validation criteria mentioned in Traffic, Engineering, Operations and Safety Manual (TEOpS).
- Create deterministic traffic models using software like Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway capacity and traffic operations under existing conditions to identify bottlenecks and locations with operational deficiencies.
- Analyze future no-build scenarios using traffic software to demonstrate operations with projected future traffic under the existing conditions and recommend alternatives to alleviate anticipated congestion.
- Responsible for modeling future build alternative scenarios and comparing measures of effectiveness to determine preferred alternative.
- Assist in intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine the most efficient and optimized control measure, including analyzing existing intersections and looking at different measures of effectiveness such as Level of Service (LOS), queue lengths and delays.
- Prepare reports and technical memorandums to cover the methodologies, analysis and results, and recommendations of the traffic studies.
- Compile graphics and exhibits to present analysis and results.
- Analyze data collected from traffic surveys and traffic count reports to identify areas of improvement.
- Compile traffic counts collected from different sources to identify peak hours and congestion patterns.
- Design traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, traffic detector loops and wiring.
- Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study and 2 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, Environmental Engineer, Traffic Engineer, or a related occupation.
Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study. Employer will accept experience and skills gained in pursuit of university-level degree via coursework, projects, or internships. Skills may be gained concurrently.
Position requires experience in the following:
- Completion of at least one project designing traffic signals including the placement of signal heads, conduits, pull boxes, and traffic detector loops and wiring;
- Completion of at least one project preparing reports and technical memorandums to cover the methodologies, analysis and results, and recommendations of the traffic studies;
- Designing traffic signals using AutoCAD Civil3D;
- Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro to evaluate roadway and traffic operations;
- Standards and regulations including WisDOT standards, Traffic Signal Design Manual (TSDM), and Traffic, Engineering, Operations Safety Manual (TEOpS); and
- Intersection control evaluation (ICE) to determine most efficient and optimized control measure.
