Accountant Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an accountant in Arizona?
To work as a licensed CPA in Arizona, you must meet the education and examination requirements set by the Arizona State Board of Accountancy, pass all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, and complete the required hours of supervised experience. Arizona also participates in interstate CPA licensure mobility, so candidates licensed in other states can often practice in Arizona without a separate application. Non-CPA accounting roles typically require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
How much do accountants make in Arizona?
Accountants in Arizona earn a median of about $79,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $55,430 for the lowest 10% to over $128,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accountants in Arizona?
Employers hiring accountants in Arizona right now include DPR Construction, BH Management Services, and MFused, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's mix of large healthcare systems, mining and natural resources companies, real estate firms, and regional financial institutions means accounting demand stays broad across multiple industries.
Which Arizona cities have the most accountant jobs?
Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe have the most accountant openings in Arizona. Phoenix dominates due to its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and large healthcare networks, while Scottsdale adds demand from wealth management and real estate companies, and Tucson is supported by the University of Arizona health system and regional government employers.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Arizona?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 44% of accountant openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and software-driven nature of most accounting work. Roles in financial reporting, tax compliance, and bookkeeping are most commonly offered with remote or hybrid flexibility, while positions requiring hands-on audit fieldwork or in-person client meetings tend to remain on-site.
How can I get hired as an accountant in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff accountant or accounting associate roles at large Arizona employers such as Banner Health, Arizona Public Service, or regional CPA firms that run structured new-graduate programs. Community colleges like Maricopa Community Colleges offer accounting certificates that signal readiness to employers. Lateral moves from bookkeeping, accounts payable, or payroll roles are common stepping stones, and candidates who have passed at least one section of the CPA exam stand out significantly in a competitive applicant pool.
