Tips for Your Business Sales Representative Job Search
Quantify your pipeline on your resume
Hiring managers for business sales representative roles want numbers, not duties. Replace phrases like 'managed accounts' with the dollar value of your quota, your close rate, or the number of new logos you brought in each quarter.
Target companies by sales cycle length
A transactional inside sales role and a complex enterprise role require different skills. Read job postings carefully for average deal size and sales cycle before applying, so you're not pitching yourself into the wrong environment.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists business sales representative openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your language to the vertical
Business sales representative postings in healthcare use different terminology than those in SaaS or manufacturing. Mirror the industry vocabulary in your resume and cover letter so your application reads as immediately relevant to the hiring manager's world.
Prepare a 30-60-90 day plan before interviews
Many business sales representative interviews end with a 'how would you ramp?' question. Having a structured plan that addresses territory mapping, pipeline building, and first-deal targets separates you from candidates who speak only in generalities.
Negotiate on variable comp, not just base
In sales roles, the commission structure and accelerators often matter more than base pay. Ask about uncapped commission, accelerator tiers above quota, and when your first full quota cycle begins before accepting any offer.
Business Sales Representative Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most business sales representatives?
The companies hiring the most business sales representatives right now include State Farm, Northwestern Mutual, and ADP, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially active in technology, insurance, and healthcare services.
How many business sales representative jobs are remote?
About 21% of business sales representative openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote availability concentrated in inside sales and SaaS account management roles. Field-based territory roles tied to a specific geographic region are much less likely to offer remote arrangements.
How do you become a business sales representative?
Most business sales representatives start with a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, then gain experience in customer-facing roles like retail, customer service, or business development. From there, you build core skills in prospecting, CRM management, and consultative selling, often by working as an inside sales rep or sales development representative before moving into a full business sales representative role.
Can you get hired as a business sales representative with little experience?
Yes, many employers hire business sales representatives with limited formal experience if you can demonstrate the underlying competencies. Focus on roles labeled 'associate' or 'entry-level,' and use your resume to highlight any experience involving persuasion, quota-like targets, or relationship management, even from retail, fundraising, or campus leadership. A strong phone presence and coachability often matter more than a lengthy resume at this level.
What does the business sales representative interview process look like?
Most business sales representative interview processes include an initial phone screen with a recruiter, followed by one or two rounds with the hiring manager focused on your sales methodology and past results. Expect a role-play or mock discovery call to assess how you handle objections. Final rounds often involve a panel with a sales director and may ask you to present a territory plan or pitch.
Where can I find and apply to business sales representative jobs?
You can find and apply to business sales representative jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your background, industry preference, and location, then apply directly to each one that fits.
