Align your credentials with DOL specialty occupation standards
Business Manager roles in consulting engineering firms must meet USCIS specialty occupation requirements. A degree in business administration, finance, or a related field strengthens your petition. Generalist backgrounds without a specific degree field create unnecessary friction at the I-129 stage.
Target project controls and operations-focused postings
Brown and Caldwell's Business Manager openings often sit within specific service lines like water, environmental, or infrastructure consulting. Postings tied to billable project portfolios signal budget authority and are more likely to trigger sponsorship approval than purely administrative support roles.
Use Migrate Mate to filter active sponsorship-eligible openings
Not every Business Manager posting at Brown and Caldwell will include sponsorship language upfront. Use Migrate Mate to browse current roles filtered by visa type so you're applying where sponsorship is already on the table, not negotiating it from scratch.
Initiate the LCA conversation before your offer expires
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Raise the sponsorship timeline early in the offer stage so HR can begin LCA filing without burning through your grace period or OPT window.
Frame your F-1 OPT period as a proof-of-hire runway
Brown and Caldwell has sponsored F-1 OPT candidates for Business Manager functions. If you're entering on OPT, use that window to demonstrate financial management impact on real projects. STEM OPT extensions aren't typically available for business degrees, so H-1B cap registration timing is critical.
Document multi-office or client-facing scope for PERM labor certification
If your path leads toward a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, your job duties file with DOL under PERM must reflect genuinely specialized responsibilities. Business Managers who oversee multi-project financials or client account portfolios across practice areas have a stronger duty description than those in single-function support roles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Brown and Caldwell sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Yes, Brown and Caldwell sponsors H-1B visas for Business Manager roles. The company operates in environmental and infrastructure consulting, where business operations functions qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards when tied to a relevant degree field. Your application will be stronger if your role involves project financial management or client account oversight rather than general administrative duties.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at Brown and Caldwell?
You can apply directly through Brown and Caldwell's careers portal or browse their current Business Manager openings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your resume to highlight financial oversight, project controls experience, and any consulting or engineering sector background. Address visa sponsorship in your cover letter so hiring managers know upfront, avoiding delays later in the process.
Which visa types does Brown and Caldwell commonly use for Business Manager roles?
Brown and Caldwell has sponsored H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Card (EB-2 and EB-3) pathways for professional roles. For Business Managers, H-1B is the most common long-term route. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business functions. F-1 OPT and CPT are typically entry points for recent graduates before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Brown and Caldwell expect for Business Manager roles?
Brown and Caldwell typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, combined with experience managing project financials or client accounts in a professional services or consulting environment. Familiarity with project-based billing structures, earned value analysis, or contract management is commonly expected, particularly for roles embedded within engineering or environmental service lines.
How do I time my visa application when pursuing a Business Manager role at Brown and Caldwell?
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT end date and work backward from the April 1 H-1B cap registration window. USCIS requires the petition to be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so your employer needs to begin the Labor Condition Application with DOL at least 30 to 60 days before that. If you miss the cap cycle, a cap-exempt employer or bridge status may be necessary to maintain authorization.
