Certify Your Technical Credentials Before Applying
CBRE's facilities operations teams prioritize candidates with verifiable certifications like EPA 608, OSHA 10, or low-voltage licenses. Having these credentialed and documented before you apply signals you're immediately deployable, which strengthens your sponsorship case.
Target CBRE's Large Portfolio Accounts
CBRE manages facilities for large corporate campuses, data centers, and Class A office buildings where staffing needs are ongoing. Operations Technician openings tied to these long-term accounts are more likely to support sponsorship than short-term project-based postings.
Distinguish Yourself From Domestic Candidates Early
CBRE must demonstrate to DOL that no qualified U.S. worker is available before pursuing PERM-based sponsorship. Highlighting specialized building systems experience, such as BMS or CMMS platforms, that is genuinely hard to source locally strengthens that justification.
Clarify Sponsorship Type During the Offer Stage
Not every CBRE offer includes the same sponsorship pathway. Before accepting, confirm whether the role supports H-1B transfer, new H-1B filing, or OPT-to-H-1B continuation. The answer affects your timeline significantly, especially if your current status has less than six months remaining.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Roles
Search for verified Operations Technician openings at CBRE using Migrate Mate, which filters real estate and facilities employers by sponsorship history. This saves you from applying to postings where sponsorship is unlikely to be authorized for technical operations roles.
Align Your Application to CBRE's Service Line Structure
CBRE operates distinct service lines including Global Workplace Solutions and Real Estate Investments. Operations Technician roles within GWS, where CBRE acts as the direct employer managing client facilities, are more consistently structured for long-term employment and sponsorship support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CBRE sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Technicians?
Yes, CBRE sponsors H-1B visas for Operations Technician roles, particularly within its Global Workplace Solutions division where it directly employs facilities staff on a long-term basis. Sponsorship is most consistent for roles requiring specialized technical skills in building systems, HVAC, or electrical work that align with USCIS specialty occupation standards. Not every open posting will include sponsorship, so confirming this during the interview process is important.
How do I apply for Operations Technician jobs at CBRE?
You can apply directly through CBRE's careers portal or find visa-sponsorship-verified postings through Migrate Mate, which surfaces CBRE Operations Technician roles filtered by sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect specific building systems experience and any certifications like EPA 608 or OSHA 10, as these directly match CBRE's technical hiring criteria for this role.
Which visa types does CBRE commonly use for Operations Technician roles?
CBRE has sponsored a range of visa types for technical operations roles including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and employment-based Green Card pathways like EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. The TN visa can be particularly accessible for Canadian nationals with engineering technology backgrounds since it does not require a lottery. The appropriate visa type depends on your nationality, education, and how long you've been with the company.
What qualifications does CBRE expect for Operations Technician roles?
CBRE typically looks for candidates with hands-on experience maintaining commercial building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety equipment. Relevant trade certifications such as EPA 608 refrigerant handling, OSHA 10 or 30, or building automation system training strengthen your profile. A two-year technical degree or equivalent vocational training is common, though experience in managing work orders through platforms like Maximo or ServiceNow also carries weight in the evaluation process.
How long does CBRE's H-1B sponsorship process take for Operations Technicians?
The timeline depends on which filing pathway applies to your situation. An H-1B transfer from an existing visa can move within a few weeks using USCIS premium processing, which adjudicates in 15 business days. A new H-1B cap-subject filing follows the April lottery cycle, meaning you'd wait until October 1 of the following fiscal year for your status to become active. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship for EB-3 typically runs 12 to 24 months before the I-140 stage, depending on DOL processing times.
