Get your CGFNS certification before applying
Foreign-educated nurses almost always need CGFNS certification or a VisaScreen certificate before a U.S. hospital will move forward with sponsorship. Having this ready signals to Dignity Health's HR team that you're immediately hireable, not months away from clearance.
Target Dignity Health facilities with consistent RN openings
Dignity Health operates dozens of hospitals across California, Arizona, and Nevada. Facilities with recurring Registered Nurse postings are where active sponsorship pipelines exist. Focus your applications on those locations rather than spreading across the entire system.
Confirm your nursing license transfers to the posting state
Dignity Health operates in both Nurse Licensure Compact and non-compact states. Before applying, verify your RN license is valid in the specific state where the role is posted. A mismatch here stalls the offer process before sponsorship even comes up.
Ask about EB-3 sponsorship during the offer stage
Health systems like Dignity Health routinely use EB-3 for Registered Nurses through the PERM labor certification process. Raise Green Card sponsorship explicitly when negotiating your offer. Waiting until after you start can delay the PERM filing by months.
Use Migrate Mate to find Registered Nurse roles at Dignity Health with active sponsorship
Migrate Mate filters Dignity Health job postings specifically for visa-sponsoring Registered Nurse roles, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship isn't on the table. Browse open roles and apply directly from the platform.
Prepare for USCIS specialty occupation scrutiny on your H-1B
USCIS has historically scrutinized H-1B petitions for nursing roles, questioning whether RN positions meet the specialty occupation standard. Your employer's attorney will need to document that the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in nursing. Confirm Dignity Health's legal team has handled this before.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Dignity Health sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, Dignity Health has sponsored H-1B visas for Registered Nurses, though H-1B approval for nursing roles requires demonstrating the position meets USCIS specialty occupation standards, which means a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is typically required. Not every RN opening at Dignity Health will be eligible, so confirming sponsorship availability with the hiring team before applying is worthwhile.
Which visa types does Dignity Health commonly use for Registered Nurses?
Dignity Health sponsors both H-1B and employment-based Green Cards, specifically EB-2 and EB-3, for Registered Nurses. EB-3 is the most common pathway for nurses at large health systems, initiated through a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. H-1B is an option for nurses with a BSN, though it requires clearing the specialty occupation bar at USCIS.
What qualifications does Dignity Health expect for sponsored Registered Nurse roles?
Dignity Health generally requires an active RN license in the state of employment, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for sponsored roles, and relevant clinical experience in the unit you're applying to, such as ICU, emergency, or med-surg. Foreign-educated nurses are also expected to hold a CGFNS VisaScreen certificate or equivalent credential evaluation before sponsorship can proceed.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at Dignity Health?
You can browse and apply for Registered Nurse positions at Dignity Health through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles specifically open to visa sponsorship. Apply directly to positions matching your specialty and license state. In your application, indicate your work authorization needs clearly so Dignity Health's recruitment team can route your file appropriately from the start.
How long does the sponsorship and visa process take for a Registered Nurse at Dignity Health?
For H-1B, standard USCIS processing runs three to six months, with premium processing available to reduce that to around 15 business days. For an EB-3 Green Card, the PERM labor certification alone typically takes 12 to 18 months, followed by I-140 and adjustment of status filings. Starting the conversation with Dignity Health's HR team about timelines as early as the offer stage helps avoid gaps in work authorization.
