McDonald’s® company-owned and independent Owner-Operator restaurants are staffed by great people, and right now we’re looking for more of them. People interested in satisfying careers with competitive benefits. People interested in growing and advancing. People with lots to offer. People like you. If you’re interested (and we sure hope you are), let’s get together.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The General Manager is responsible for running a profitable restaurant and for making sure the restaurant meets McDonald’s critical customer standards of Quality, Service, and Cleanliness. These standards are high, so this is a big job! The General Manager works with his/her leader to set the restaurant’s goals and creates a plan to achieve the goals.
To meet restaurant goals, the General Manager doesn’t work alone. He or she leads a team of Department Managers that has specific responsibilities in the restaurant. This means helping the Department Managers to set their own goals, following up on their progress, and providing coaching and direction to improve their Departments. By improving the Departments, the restaurant improves!
The General Manager may also be responsible for hiring and developing Department and Shift Managers to make sure that the restaurant has the right team to lead into the future.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be Servsafe certified and attended McDonald’s training classes.
This job posting is for a position in a restaurant owned and operated by an independent franchisee, not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC. This means the independent franchisee, and not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC, is alone responsible for all employment related matters in the restaurant including, among other things, setting any requirements for this job and all decisions concerning hiring, firing, discipline, supervisions, staffing and scheduling. McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC will not receive a copy of any application you submit for this job posting and will have no control over whether you receive an interview and/or are ultimately hired, does not control and is not responsible for the employment policies and practices of independent franchisees, and does not employ independent franchisees’ employees. If you are hired for this job posting, the independent franchisee, and not McDonald’s Corporation or McDonald’s USA, LLC, will be your employer.
This job posting contains some general information about what it is like to work in a McDonald’s restaurant, but is not a complete job description. People who work in a McDonald’s restaurant perform a number of different tasks every day, and this posting does not list all of the essential functions of the job.
McDonald’s is a drug free environment as this is a safety sensitive position.

Frame Your Credentials Around U.S. Equivalency
McDonald's hiring teams evaluate operations candidates against domestic management standards. Get your foreign degree assessed by a NACES-approved credential evaluator before applying, so your application clearly maps to U.S. bachelor's-level qualifications from day one.
Target Corporate and Franchise-Owner Postings Separately
McDonald's corporate entities have established visa sponsorship infrastructure, but independently owned franchises typically do not sponsor. Filter your search to corporate-owned locations or positions listed under McDonald's Corporation to avoid wasting time on roles that can't move forward.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Sponsorship-Verified Listings
Not every Operations Manager posting at McDonald's explicitly states whether sponsorship is available. Use Migrate Mate to browse roles filtered by visa type, so you're only pursuing openings where sponsorship for your specific visa category has been confirmed.
Align Your Experience to Multi-Unit Oversight Language
McDonald's Operations Manager roles often require demonstrated experience managing P&L accountability across multiple locations. Structure your resume and cover letter around quantifiable outcomes in food safety compliance, labor scheduling, and cost control rather than single-unit restaurant management.
Understand How PERM Affects Long-Term Sponsorship Expectations
For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, McDonald's must complete a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Ask directly during negotiations whether permanent residency sponsorship is on offer, and confirm the expected timeline for initiating the PERM process.

Find Operations Manager at McDonald's JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Managers?
Yes, McDonald's Corporation sponsors H-1B visas for Operations Manager roles at the corporate level. The position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given its requirements around business administration or a related field. Because H-1B slots are subject to an annual cap with a lottery, timing your application around the March registration window is critical. Franchise-owned locations generally do not sponsor.
How do I apply for Operations Manager jobs at McDonald's?
Applications are submitted through McDonald's careers portal. Search for Operations Manager or Restaurant Operations roles and filter by corporate postings to find positions where sponsorship is feasible. Tailoring your resume to reflect multi-unit food service experience, cost management, and compliance track record significantly strengthens your application. You can also browse verified sponsorship-eligible openings on Migrate Mate before applying directly.
Which visa types does McDonald's commonly use for Operations Manager roles?
McDonald's uses H-1B for skilled specialty occupation hires and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates already in the U.S. completing degrees in business, hospitality, or supply chain management. For candidates seeking permanent residency, McDonald's has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through PERM labor certification. TN visa sponsorship is also available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management roles.
What qualifications does McDonald's expect for sponsored Operations Manager candidates?
McDonald's typically expects a bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, or a related field, combined with several years of progressively responsible food service or multi-unit retail management experience. Strong familiarity with food safety regulations, labor cost management, and P&L reporting is expected. For H-1B purposes, the role must be positioned as requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific discipline.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for Operations Manager roles at McDonald's?
From offer to work authorization, timelines depend on your visa type. F-1 OPT can activate within a few months through your designated school official. H-1B sponsorship requires registering in the March lottery, with employment starting no earlier than October 1 if selected. Green Card sponsorship through PERM adds considerably more time, often one to three years depending on your country of birth and priority date.
