Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Teaching roles requires a direct connection between your degree and the courses you'll instruct. A master's in biomedical sciences supports an anatomy teaching position far more cleanly than a general education degree does.
Target departments with recurring faculty openings
Midwestern University's health sciences colleges, including osteopathic medicine, dental medicine, and pharmacy, post Teaching vacancies on a rolling academic calendar. Applying during fall and spring hiring cycles puts you in front of committees with active budgets and filled sponsorship pipelines.
Clarify TN eligibility before your offer letter stage
Canadian and Mexican nationals teaching in qualifying scientific or technical disciplines may qualify for TN status, which moves faster than H-1B. Confirm with the hiring department that your role and degree field meet DOL's defined TN profession list before negotiations close.
Request written confirmation of sponsorship intent early
Once a verbal offer appears likely, ask directly whether Midwestern University will file an H-1B petition or support a change of status. Getting this confirmed before you resign from another role or let OPT run down protects you from a late-stage reversal.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Teaching openings by visa type
Browsing general job boards won't tell you which Midwestern University Teaching roles come with confirmed sponsorship support. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for positions where H-1B, OPT, or other visa types are supported, saving you from applying to roles that won't advance.
Prepare your J-1 waiver documentation if applicable
If you're finishing a J-1 exchange visitor program with a two-year home residency requirement, Midwestern University will need to sponsor your waiver before filing an H-1B. Identify your waiver pathway through USCIS or the Conrad 30 program well before your program end date.

Find Teaching at Midwestern University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Midwestern University sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, Midwestern University sponsors H-1B visas for Teaching positions that qualify as specialty occupations, meaning the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific academic discipline directly related to the duties. Faculty and instructional roles in health sciences programs at Midwestern University commonly meet this standard. You'll need an offer letter before the university can file a petition with USCIS.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Midwestern University?
Applications go through Midwestern University's careers portal, where Teaching vacancies are posted by college and department. You can also find sponsorship-confirmed Teaching openings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa type so you know upfront whether a position supports H-1B, OPT, or other pathways. Tailor your application materials to the specific academic discipline and student population each department serves.
Which visa types does Midwestern University use for Teaching positions?
Midwestern University supports several visa categories for Teaching roles, including H-1B for specialty occupation faculty, F-1 OPT and CPT for students transitioning into instructional or research positions, TN for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying disciplines, and J-1 for exchange visitors in academic or research teaching roles. The right pathway depends on your citizenship, degree field, and the specific teaching function being hired.
What qualifications are typically expected for Teaching roles at Midwestern University?
Most Teaching positions at Midwestern University require an advanced degree, with doctoral-level credentials expected for faculty roles in clinical programs such as osteopathic medicine, dental medicine, and pharmacy. Instructional positions in basic sciences or professional programs may accept a master's degree combined with relevant clinical or research experience. For H-1B purposes, your degree must align directly with the subject matter you'll teach, not just higher education generally.
How do visa processing timelines affect starting a Teaching role at Midwestern University?
H-1B petitions for Teaching roles must be filed with USCIS, and standard processing runs several months. Midwestern University's academic hiring cycle typically targets fall and spring semester starts, so coordinating your application timeline with the department's intended start date matters. If you're on OPT, confirm your expiration date early so the university can file before your work authorization lapses. Premium processing is available through USCIS for faster adjudication if timing is tight.
