Align your credentials with U.S. procurement standards
Thermo Fisher recruits for procurement roles that intersect with regulated scientific supply chains. Certifications like CPSM or CSCMP signal fluency in U.S. sourcing standards and strengthen your case before you ever apply.
Target roles in direct materials and supplier quality
Thermo Fisher's procurement hiring concentrates heavily on direct materials categories tied to lab equipment, reagents, and life sciences supply chains. Framing your experience around regulated-industry sourcing puts your application in the right lane.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open procurement roles by sponsorship
Not every procurement posting at Thermo Fisher is open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to identify which roles are actively available to international applicants before investing time in a tailored application.
Clarify your visa type early in recruiter conversations
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B, TN, and OPT candidates for procurement roles, but eligibility varies by position level and hiring timeline. Stating your current status upfront lets recruiters route you to roles where sponsorship is already scoped into the hiring plan.
Understand how OPT cap-gap affects your start date
If your F-1 OPT expires before October 1 and your H-1B is selected in the lottery, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization automatically. Confirm this timeline with your DSO before accepting an offer so your start date is legally defensible.
Prepare for PERM documentation if targeting a Green Card pathway
Procurement managers at Thermo Fisher can be sponsored for EB-2 or EB-3 Green Cards through the PERM labor certification process. DOL requires your employer to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available, so documenting specialized sourcing skills early supports that case.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Procurements?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Procurement roles. The company has a well-established sponsorship process for this function, particularly for positions in strategic sourcing, supplier management, and direct materials procurement. H-1B sponsorship is typically initiated after a formal offer, and your employer files the petition with USCIS on your behalf.
How do I apply for Procurement jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal. Browse open roles by department and filter for procurement or supply chain titles. Before applying, review whether the role is open to sponsored candidates. Migrate Mate surfaces Thermo Fisher procurement postings that are relevant to international applicants, so you can prioritize your efforts on the roles most likely to move forward.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly sponsor for Procurement roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors a range of visa types for Procurement, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classification. TN visa status is an option if you're a Canadian or Mexican national working in a qualifying procurement or supply chain management capacity. Green Card sponsorship through PERM is available for longer-tenure roles at the manager level and above.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for sponsored Procurement roles?
Most procurement roles at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the degree must be directly relevant to the position. Experience in regulated industries, SAP proficiency, and category management in life sciences or laboratory supply chains strengthens your candidacy considerably.
How do I understand the timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
H-1B sponsorship follows a fixed federal timeline. USCIS opens registration each March, with a lottery selection in late March or early April for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, your authorization must bridge that gap. Thermo Fisher's procurement hiring cycles often align with fiscal planning, so targeting applications in the fall or winter gives you the best chance of an offer before the registration window opens.
