WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level and live longer through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. Protecting our members’ data and ensuring our systems scale securely and reliably is core to this mission.
As an Engineering Manager on the Translations Platform team, you will lead a team responsible for building and scaling the systems that enable WHOOP to deliver a seamless, high-quality multilingual experience across mobile, web, and backend services. This includes owning the infrastructure, tooling, and workflows that power localization, internationalization (i18n), and right-to-left (RTL) support, expanding WHOOP’s reach to more global markets. You will operate at the intersection of platform engineering, product experience, and global expansion, partnering closely with Product, Design, Marketing, and external vendors to ensure translations are delivered accurately, efficiently, and at scale. This role is highly execution-focused, with an emphasis on building reliable systems, improving developer workflows, and enabling rapid addition of new languages while navigating tradeoffs like vendor vs. in-house solutions.
Responsibilities
- Own the execution and delivery of the Translations Platform roadmap, including RTL support, localization infrastructure, and developer tooling
- Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for translation pipelines, language services, and localization frameworks across mobile, web, and backend
- Drive improvements to translation workflows, reducing manual processes, delays, and operational friction in the current system
- Partner with Product, Design, QA, and Marketing to ensure high-quality localized member experiences
- Oversee the integration and evolution of translation vendors, APIs, and internal systems (e.g., Smartling, AI-based translation workflows)
- Ensure systems support scalable language expansion, including complex requirements like bidirectional text, RTL layouts, and data-heavy UI components
- Establish strong operational practices, including monitoring, debugging, and maintaining translation accuracy and freshness across services
- Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure translation systems are reliable, performant, and well-integrated into the broader architecture
- Manage team execution, balancing new feature delivery, infrastructure improvements, and technical debt reduction
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience managing and developing software engineers in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment
- Experience delivering complex, cross-functional systems that span multiple platforms (mobile, web, backend)
- Strong technical background in distributed systems, APIs, and backend services
- Familiarity with translation pipelines, vendor integrations, or content management systems
- Experience improving developer workflows through tooling, automation, and platform investments
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to balance speed, quality, and long-term scalability in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with or building localization, internationalization (i18n), or content delivery systems desired
- Familiarity with translation platforms such as Smartling or AI-based translation systems desired
- Experience building or scaling internal platforms that support global product expansion desired
- Knowledge of mobile and frontend challenges related to localization desired (iOS, Android, web)

Frame your credentials around technical program management
Whoop hires Project Program Managers to coordinate engineering and research workflows, not just business operations. Tailor your resume to highlight experience managing product development cycles, hardware-software integration timelines, or research program milestones before you apply.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early
If you're on F-1 OPT, verify your degree field qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension before accepting an offer. Wearable health tech sits in a STEM-eligible category, but your specific CIP code determines eligibility, not the employer's industry.
Identify Whoop's H-1B filing window before negotiating
H-1B cap registrations open in March for an October 1 start. If you're not already in H-1B status, time your offer negotiation so your start date aligns with that window. Missing the registration period means waiting a full year.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Project Program Manager openings at Whoop
Whoop's Project Program Manager listings don't always stay open long. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Whoop roles that include visa sponsorship so you're applying to verified opportunities, not outdated postings.
Prepare for USCIS specialty occupation scrutiny on this role
Program Manager titles attract USCIS requests for evidence because the role can seem generalist. Build a case that connects your specific degree field directly to Whoop's science and research function. Concrete examples of R&D program ownership strengthen that argument significantly.
Clarify petitioner details before your offer letter is finalized
Ask Whoop's recruiting team whether the H-1B petition will be filed by the parent entity or a subsidiary, and confirm they use a qualified immigration attorney. These details affect your I-797 approval notice and any future Green Card portability.

Does Whoop sponsor H-1B visas for Project Program Managers?
Yes, Whoop sponsors H-1B visas for Project Program Manager roles. The company operates in science and research, which supports the specialty occupation designation USCIS requires for H-1B approval. Because Program Manager titles can attract additional scrutiny from USCIS, it helps to have your degree and work history clearly mapped to Whoop's technical program needs before the petition is filed.
How do I apply for Project Program Manager jobs at Whoop?
Applications go through Whoop's careers portal. Migrate Mate also lists Whoop's Project Program Manager openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which saves time if you're specifically looking for roles that support international candidates. Tailor your application to highlight cross-functional program ownership experience in hardware, software, or health technology environments, as Whoop's R&D focus makes that background directly relevant.
Which visa types does Whoop commonly use for Project Program Manager roles?
Whoop sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization path for Project Program Managers. For candidates already on F-1 status, F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT are also supported, allowing you to start work before an H-1B petition is filed. TN visa sponsorship is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible professional categories.
What qualifications does Whoop expect for Project Program Manager candidates?
Whoop typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, biomedical science, or a related technical field, combined with hands-on experience managing complex product or research programs. Familiarity with hardware development cycles or consumer health technology is an advantage. Strong cross-functional coordination skills and experience working alongside engineering and research teams are consistent priorities across Whoop's open roles.
How do I handle the H-1B timeline if Whoop extends me an offer?
If you're not already in H-1B status, your employer needs to register you in the USCIS H-1B lottery, which opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're selected, Whoop files the full petition after registration. Plan your offer negotiation with that calendar in mind. If you're on OPT, you may be able to bridge the gap using the cap-gap rule, which automatically extends OPT while an H-1B petition is pending.
