Director Of Fp A Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a director of fp a in Virginia?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field followed by progressive FP&A experience, often with a CPA or CFA credential that Virginia employers in defense and government contracting treat as near-mandatory at the director level. Virginia does not license FP&A professionals through a state board, but candidates who advance through senior analyst and manager roles at Virginia's major contractors or corporate headquarters are consistently the strongest applicants.
Which companies hire director of fp as in Virginia?
Virginia director of fp a roles are posted by Amazon, CVS Health, and Capital One and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Northern Virginia's concentration of defense contractors and government services firms makes it one of the more active markets in the country for senior FP&A leadership roles.
Which Virginia cities have the most director of fp a jobs?
Richmond, Arlington, and McLean have the most director of fp a openings in Virginia right now. The Northern Virginia cities reflect the region's dense cluster of defense contractors and federal IT firms headquartered near the D.C. beltway, while Richmond draws demand from financial services companies and corporate headquarters with significant FP&A teams.

Yes, and more than most fields. About 86% of director of fp a openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that financial planning and analysis work is largely analytical and presentation-driven rather than on-site. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work are financial modeling, reporting cycles, and board presentation prep, while budget review meetings with operational teams often require periodic in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a director of fp a in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a financial analyst or senior financial analyst role at one of Virginia's large defense contractors or corporate finance teams, where internal promotion tracks to manager and eventually director are well established. Firms like Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, and Leidos regularly hire junior analysts with strong modeling skills and government contract exposure. Earning a CPA while working in these analyst roles gives candidates a clear credential edge when competing for director-level openings.
