Engineering Program Manager Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering program manager in North Dakota?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline followed by several years in project or program roles within North Dakota's dominant industries, including energy, defense systems, and manufacturing. While North Dakota does not require a state-issued engineering program manager license specifically, candidates who hold a Professional Engineer license through the North Dakota State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors carry a meaningful credential advantage with employers like Basin Electric and state infrastructure agencies.
How much do engineering program managers make in North Dakota?
Engineering program managers in North Dakota earn a median of about $147,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $112,130 for the lowest 10% to over $215,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering program managers in North Dakota?
Companies currently hiring engineering program managers in North Dakota include Terracon Consultants, CVS Health, and Bartlett & West, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Dakota's energy, defense technology, and agricultural equipment sectors consistently drive the strongest and most sustained hiring for this role across the state.
Which North Dakota cities have the most engineering program manager jobs?
Fargo, Grand Forks, and Bismarck have the most engineering program manager openings in North Dakota. Fargo anchors the distribution as the state's largest metro, home to major manufacturing, technology, and healthcare employers, while Bismarck draws openings tied to state government infrastructure programs and Basin Electric, and Grand Forks benefits from the University of North Dakota's research partnerships and nearby defense contracting activity.
Are there remote engineering program manager jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, and more than many engineering disciplines allow. About 27% of engineering program manager openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's strong reliance on coordination, reporting, and stakeholder management rather than hands-on lab or field work. Program oversight for software integration, systems engineering, and enterprise IT projects tends to be the most remote-compatible subset of openings.
How can I get hired as a engineering program manager in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a technical individual-contributor role, such as a systems engineer, project coordinator, or field engineer position, into a junior program management function. North Dakota employers like John Deere and Sanford Health run structured associate program manager and rotational engineering development programs that welcome candidates with strong technical foundations but limited direct PM experience. Earning a CAPM certification and building a portfolio of cross-team coordination work in your current role accelerates the transition considerably.
Where can I find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in North Dakota?
You can find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in North Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, identify the roles that fit your background and target sector, and apply directly to the ones that match your experience and location preferences.
