Executive Chef Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a executive chef in Pennsylvania?
The typical path in Pennsylvania begins with a culinary degree or diploma from an accredited program, such as those offered at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia or Johnson College in Scranton, followed by progressive kitchen experience from line cook through sous chef. Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued culinary license, but most employers expect a current ServSafe Manager certification, which is recognized statewide and administered through the National Restaurant Association.
How much do executive chefs make in Pennsylvania?
Executive chefs in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $63,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,040 for the lowest 10% to over $95,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire executive chefs in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring executive chefs in Pennsylvania right now include Sodexo, Harvest Seasonal Grill, and Aramark, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's mix of large hotel groups, casino resorts, healthcare dining contractors, and independent restaurant groups creates consistent openings for culinary leadership talent across the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most executive chef jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Newtown account for the greatest concentration of executive chef openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia drives volume through its dense hotel, casino, and independent fine-dining market, Pittsburgh draws on its growing hospitality and convention sector, and the Lehigh Valley's expanding resort corridor and corporate dining accounts generate steady demand in that region.
Are there remote executive chef jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of executive chef openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how fundamentally hands-on the role is. The functions most compatible with remote work are recipe development consulting, menu planning for multi-unit chains, and culinary training program design rather than day-to-day kitchen leadership.
How can I get hired as a executive chef in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is securing a sous chef or kitchen manager role at a mid-scale Pennsylvania hotel or healthcare dining operation, where employers like Aramark and Sodexo run structured culinary development programs that advance strong performers into executive chef positions. Earning a ServSafe Manager certification and building a documented portfolio of original menus strengthens any candidacy. Lateral moves from banquet chef or pastry chef roles at Pennsylvania convention properties are another common pathway into a first executive position.
Where can I find and apply to executive chef jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to executive chef jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find positions that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
