Finance Director Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance director in Maryland?
Most finance director roles in Maryland require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance plus substantial management experience, with a CPA credential providing a strong competitive edge. The Maryland Board of Public Accountancy issues the CPA license, and Maryland participates in CPA license reciprocity for candidates licensed in other states. Employers in defense contracting and healthcare often add sector-specific requirements, such as familiarity with DCAA audits or healthcare cost reporting.
Which companies hire finance directors in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring finance directors in Maryland include GEICO, Korn Ferry, and AstraZeneca, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Maryland's concentration of federal contractors, major health systems, and large nonprofits means demand for finance directors remains broad across industries rather than limited to any single sector.
Which Maryland cities have the most finance director jobs?
The Maryland cities with the most finance director openings are Baltimore, Bethesda, and Rockville. Baltimore's anchor role as the state's largest city drives volume through its health systems, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters, while the D.C.-adjacent suburbs of Bethesda and Rockville attract demand from federal contractors and international organizations headquartered in Montgomery County.
Are there remote finance director jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than many senior roles, because finance directors spend much of their time in reporting, modeling, and strategic planning work that translates well to remote settings. About 70% of finance director openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how common flexible arrangements have become at this level. Fully remote openings are most common in financial planning and analysis roles at technology-forward or nationally distributed employers.
How can I get hired as a finance director in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a finance director role from a senior financial analyst or controller position at a Maryland employer rather than applying directly without experience. Large Maryland health systems like University of Maryland Medical System and MedStar Health run structured finance leadership development programs that build toward director-level roles. Pursuing a CPA license through the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy or an MBA from a University System of Maryland institution strengthens a candidate's file significantly alongside hands-on management exposure.
Where can I find and apply to finance director jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to finance director jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, industry background, and preferred location within the state, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
