Food Service Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a food service manager in Texas?
To work as a food service manager in Texas, you need a Food Manager Certification issued by an ANAB-accredited program such as ServSafe or Prometric, which satisfies the Texas Department of State Health Services requirement for at least one certified manager per establishment. Most employers also expect a high school diploma at minimum, though an associate or bachelor's degree in hospitality management, culinary arts, or business strengthens your candidacy for institutional or multi-unit roles.
How much do food service managers make in Texas?
Food service managers in Texas earn a median of about $60,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,310 for the lowest 10% to over $98,570 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire food service managers in Texas?
Employers hiring food service managers in Texas right now include Wendy's, Burger King, and KFC, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large healthcare systems, university dining programs, and hotel groups also post regularly, giving candidates options well beyond traditional restaurant chains.
Which Texas cities have the most food service manager jobs?
Houston, Austin, and San Antonio have the most food service manager openings in Texas. Houston's sprawling healthcare campuses, energy-sector corporate dining, and convention hotel industry drive the highest volume, while Dallas concentrates demand around its headquarters corridor, sports venues, and airport concessions, and San Antonio's tourism economy and military dining contracts keep openings steady year-round.
Are there remote food service manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of food service manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on, on-site nature of overseeing kitchens, staff, and dining operations. The small share of remote-eligible work tends to involve district or regional oversight roles where administrative reporting and vendor coordination can be done off-site.
How can I get hired as a food service manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a lead cook, shift supervisor, or assistant manager position within a Texas employer that promotes from within, such as the large contract dining companies operating in Houston and Dallas healthcare systems. Earning a ServSafe Food Manager Certification gives you a concrete credential that Texas law requires on-site, which signals readiness to hiring managers. University dining programs at schools like UT Austin and Texas A&M run student manager and trainee roles that develop operational skills before full management placement.
Where can I find and apply to food service manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to food service manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and other markets. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
