Food Supervisor Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a food supervisor in Texas?
The most direct path in Texas is to earn a Food Manager Certification, which is required for at least one certified manager per food establishment under Texas Department of State Health Services rules. Most employers accept the ServSafe Manager exam, which you can take through an accredited proctor. A background in commercial cooking, catering, or food service combined with that credential positions you for supervisory roles. Some employers also look for coursework in culinary arts or hospitality management from a Texas community college.
How much do food supervisors make in Texas?
Food supervisors in Texas earn a median of about $36,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $28,010 for the lowest 10% to over $61,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire food supervisors in Texas?
Employers hiring food supervisors in Texas right now include Starbucks, KFC, and Dallas Independent School District, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale as a food manufacturing and distribution hub means openings appear across a wide range of employer types, from large grocery and foodservice distributors to hospital systems and school districts.
Which Texas cities have the most food supervisor jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio consistently lead for food supervisor openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of food manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and large hospital systems drives volume there, while Dallas attracts hiring through its headquarters presence in retail food and fast-casual chains, and San Antonio's strong hospitality and military dining sectors keep demand steady.
Are there remote food supervisor jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Food supervision is fundamentally an on-site role requiring direct oversight of staff, equipment, and food handling, so most positions require physical presence. About 0% of food supervisor openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in training coordination, compliance auditing, or multi-unit oversight roles where travel replaces daily on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a food supervisor in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving into a lead or shift-lead role from an existing food service position such as line cook, prep cook, or cashier lead at a high-volume Texas employer. H-E-B, Aramark, and large hospital systems like HCA Houston Healthcare regularly promote from within and hire associate-level candidates for their management trainee tracks. Earning a ServSafe Manager certification before applying signals readiness and meets a common Texas regulatory threshold, giving candidates without years of supervisory history a concrete credential to show.
Where can I find and apply to food supervisor jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to food supervisor jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
