HVAC Technician Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hvac technician in Louisiana?
Louisiana requires hvac technicians to hold a license issued by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors or, for journeyman-level work, registration with the Louisiana State Mechanical Board. The path typically starts with completion of a vocational or community college HVAC program at a school like Delgado Community College or Bossier Parish Community College, followed by an apprenticeship, and then passing the relevant state board exam. EPA Section 608 certification is also required before handling refrigerants.
Which companies hire hvac technicians in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring hvac technicians in Louisiana include Southern Air Heating Cooling & Plumbing, Walmart, and Carrier, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Louisiana's concentration of petrochemical plants, hospital systems, and large commercial developments keeps a broad range of employers, from national service contractors to regional mechanical firms, recruiting throughout the year.
Which Louisiana cities have the most hvac technician jobs?
Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and New Orleans consistently show the most hvac technician openings in Louisiana. New Orleans generates high volume from its hospitality, healthcare, and commercial real estate sectors, Baton Rouge is anchored by its industrial corridor and state government facilities, and Shreveport draws steady demand from its healthcare campuses and manufacturing base, making each city's concentration make sense on its own terms.
Are there remote hvac technician jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Hands-on diagnostic, installation, and service work requires a physical presence on-site, making full remote positions uncommon in this field. About 0% of hvac technician openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those roles are typically in technical support, controls engineering, or equipment sales coordination rather than field service work.
How can I get hired as a hvac technician in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a registered apprenticeship through a Louisiana chapter of UA Local unions or through a contractor-sponsored program with large employers like Johnson Controls or Entergy facility services teams. Community colleges such as Delgado and South Louisiana Community College offer associate programs that include enough hands-on training to land an entry-level helper or HVAC assistant role. Earning your EPA Section 608 certification before applying gives you a concrete credential that moves your application forward even without field hours.
Where can I find and apply to hvac technician jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to hvac technician jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
