Manufacturing Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing worker in Tennessee?
Most manufacturing roles in Tennessee require at minimum a high school diploma or GED, with employers often preferring candidates who have completed a technical program at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology, which offers certificates in machining, welding, and industrial maintenance. No single state license governs all manufacturing work, but skilled trades roles may require journeyman credentials through Tennessee's Department of Labor and Workforce Development apprenticeship programs.
Which companies hire manufacturing workers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring manufacturings in Tennessee right now include Jabil, North American Stamping, and laborup, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's automotive corridor, running through Middle and East Tennessee, keeps demand especially strong for production and assembly roles at vehicle and parts manufacturers.
Which Tennessee cities have the most manufacturing jobs?
Memphis, Portland, and Nashville lead Tennessee for manufacturing openings, driven by the Nashville metro's diversified industrial base, Memphis's logistics and food processing concentration along the Mississippi corridor, and Chattanooga's established automotive manufacturing presence anchored by Volkswagen's assembly plant and its extensive network of suppliers.
Are there remote manufacturing jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Manufacturing work is inherently hands-on and tied to physical facilities, so most roles require on-site presence. About 14% of manufacturing openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to be in manufacturing engineering, quality systems management, or supply chain coordination rather than production floor roles.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing worker in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for general production associate or assembly technician roles, which large Tennessee manufacturers regularly staff without requiring prior experience. Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology offer short-term certificates in industrial technology that give candidates a measurable edge. Major automotive employers and food processing companies in the state run structured new-hire training programs, and completing an apprenticeship through Tennessee's registered apprenticeship system is a direct route into skilled trades manufacturing positions.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to manufacturing jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
