Tips for Your Marketing And Advertising Job Search
Quantify results on your resume
Marketing and advertising roles live and die by measurable outcomes. Replace vague bullets like 'managed social media' with specific results: campaign reach, cost-per-click improvements, lead volume, or revenue attributed. Hiring managers in this field expect numbers, not descriptions.
Tailor your portfolio to each application
Send work samples that match the channel or format the role focuses on. If the job is paid search, lead with SEM case studies. If it's content, show editorial calendars and distribution results. A generic portfolio loses to one that mirrors exactly what the employer does.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists marketing and advertising openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by channel specialty, not just title
A 'marketing manager' at one company runs email and automation, while at another it means paid social. Search by the specific channel you want, like programmatic, SEO, or CRM, to surface roles that actually match your skills and avoid mismatched interviews.
Prepare a campaign walkthrough for interviews
Most marketing and advertising interviews include a live case or portfolio review. Walk the interviewer through one campaign start to finish: the brief, your strategy, what you executed, and what the results showed. Practicing this out loud cuts filler and sharpens your narrative.
Negotiate using comp benchmarks by channel
Compensation in marketing and advertising varies sharply by specialization. Paid media managers and marketing analysts with attribution expertise often command more than generalists at the same seniority. Research channel-specific pay ranges from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and industry salary surveys before any offer conversation.
Marketing And Advertising Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most marketing and advertisings?
FICS, RECOM, and Cricut are hiring the most marketing and advertisings right now, with openings concentrated in Texas, New York, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand is especially active at consumer brands, healthcare systems, and full-service agencies.
How many marketing and advertising jobs are remote?
About 58% of marketing and advertising openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more flexible fields for distributed work. Content strategy, SEO, email marketing, and paid media roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while brand events, out-of-home advertising, and in-house creative roles more often require an on-site presence.
How do you become a marketing and advertising?
Start with a degree in marketing, advertising, communications, or a related field, then build hands-on experience through internships, freelance projects, or agency work. Develop a portfolio that shows real campaign results. Getting certified in Google Ads, Meta advertising, or marketing analytics tools strengthens your application for most roles. Entry-level positions in digital marketing, media buying, or account coordination are common starting points.
How do you get hired in marketing and advertising with little experience?
Focus on building a portfolio before you apply. Run a small paid campaign with your own budget, volunteer to handle social content for a local business, or take on freelance copywriting work. Employers in this field care more about what you've executed than where you did it. Internships at agencies are especially effective because they expose you to multiple clients and channels in a short time.
What does the marketing and advertising interview process look like?
Most processes run three to four stages. An initial screen with a recruiter or hiring manager is followed by a portfolio review or case study where you walk through past campaigns. Later rounds often include a take-home assignment, such as drafting a campaign brief or analyzing a mock data set. Final interviews typically involve a panel from the marketing team and sometimes a cross-functional stakeholder like sales or product.
Where can I find and apply to marketing and advertising jobs?
You can find and apply to marketing and advertising jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search for roles that match your specialization, seniority level, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
