Marketing Associate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing associate in California?
A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field is the standard entry point for marketing associate roles in California. The state does not require a government-issued license for this role. California employers, particularly in tech and entertainment, increasingly look for candidates with a portfolio of campaign work, hands-on experience with digital tools, and familiarity with data-driven marketing practices gained through internships or coursework.
Which companies hire marketing associates in California?
Employers hiring marketing associates in California right now include MatterHackers, DoorDash, and Mattel, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's dense concentration of technology companies, entertainment studios, and consumer brands makes it one of the most diverse hiring markets in the country for this role.
Which California cities have the most marketing associate jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Lake Forest have the most marketing associate openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its entertainment, media, and consumer brand headquarters, while San Francisco and the broader Bay Area are driven by technology and SaaS companies, and San Diego draws demand from biotech, defense, and hospitality employers headquartered along the coast.
Are there remote marketing associate jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 48% of marketing associate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including content creation, campaign management, and reporting, is done entirely through digital tools. Roles focused on event coordination or in-person brand activations are more likely to require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a marketing associate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a marketing internship or coordinator role at a California company, which often converts to a full-time marketing associate position. Large California employers such as tech firms in the Bay Area and media companies in Los Angeles run structured new-grad rotational programs. Adjacent roles in sales support, content coordination, or social media management at California agencies or startups also open the door, and a portfolio of real campaign results, even from freelance or student projects, gives candidates a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to marketing associate jobs in California?
