Regional Sales Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a regional sales manager in California?
Most regional sales managers in California reach the role by first building several years of individual contributor sales experience in their target industry, then moving into a team lead or senior sales representative role before stepping into management. California employers in technology and life sciences increasingly expect familiarity with structured sales methodologies such as MEDDIC or Challenger. A bachelor's degree is the standard baseline, and an MBA gives candidates a clear edge for senior appointments at larger California companies.
How much do regional sales managers make in California?
Regional sales managers in California earn a median of about $134,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,430 for the lowest 10% to over $300,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire regional sales managers in California?
Employers hiring regional sales managers in California right now include Apple, BD, and IPEVO, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, medical device manufacturers, and large food and industrial distributors makes it one of the deepest markets in the country for this role.
Which California cities have the most regional sales manager jobs?
The cities with the most regional sales manager openings in California are Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Cupertino. Los Angeles drives volume through its size and diversity across consumer goods, healthcare, and logistics, San Francisco and the broader Bay Area reflect heavy demand from technology and life sciences companies headquartered there, and San Diego's concentration of biotech and medical device firms anchors strong ongoing hiring in that metro.
Are there remote regional sales manager jobs in California?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based roles because regional sales managers typically oversee field teams and hold territory accountability that requires in-person presence. About 30% of regional sales manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to concentrate in SaaS, cloud software, and inside-sales-led organizations where team coaching and pipeline review happen primarily over video.
How can I get hired as a regional sales manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is landing a senior individual contributor or team lead role first, which positions you for an internal promotion into management. Large California technology employers and medical device companies such as those based in the Bay Area and San Diego regularly hire from their own top-performing account executive or sales specialist ranks. Building experience managing an informal pod, mentoring new hires, or leading a regional project demonstrates readiness before a formal management title is on offer.
Where can I find and apply to regional sales manager jobs in California?
