The Manager / Senior Manager, Business Development is a field-based, individual-contributor sales role responsible for driving new business growth for Resilience’s Biologics and Drug Product offerings across the West Coast region. This role owns the full new-business lifecycle, from prospecting and qualifying leads through proposal, negotiation, and close. The person filling this role will be measured on the volume and quality of new client relationships and revenue generated within the territory.
We are looking for a highly motivated hunter: someone who is energized by opening doors, building a pipeline, and converting relationships into signed business. The ideal candidate combines a genuine curiosity about the science with a competitive, target-driven approach to sales, and is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy across a large geographic territory.
This position requires working knowledge of Biologics (drug substance) and Drug Product (including sterile fill/finish) development and manufacturing, enabling credible, technical conversations with scientific and business stakeholders at prospective client organizations. Level of hire (Manager vs. Senior Manager) will be based on the candidate’s experience, existing network, and demonstrated track record of new business generation.
This role is field-based and requires up to 50% travel across the West Coast territory, with periodic travel to conferences and Resilience sites nationally.
What You'll Do
New Business Development (Hunting)
- Build and manage an active, self-generated pipeline of new-business opportunities across small, mid-size, and large pharma and biotech companies throughout the West Coast.
- Proactively prospect for new (pre-)clinical and commercial-stage opportunities using personal networks, lead-generation platforms, referrals, marketing campaigns, and inbound web leads.
- Own the full sales cycle for the Biologics and Drug Product business — from first outreach and qualification through value-proposition development, pricing, proposal, contract negotiation, and close.
- Consistently meet or exceed new-business pipeline and revenue targets; drive year-over-year growth of new customers within the territory.
Relationship Building
- Cultivate durable, trust-based relationships with scientific, technical, and executive decision-makers at prospective and existing client organizations.
- Represent Resilience at trade shows, industry conferences, and member groups across the West Coast; speaking opportunities are a plus.
- Serve as the client’s advocate internally, ensuring customer needs are clearly communicated to Operations, Commercial Development, and other internal partners.
- Collaborate with Marketing to shape campaigns targeted at West Coast prospects and to convert inbound marketing interest into qualified pipeline.
Technical & Market Expertise
- Maintain working technical knowledge of Biologics drug substance and Drug Product (including sterile fill/finish) development and manufacturing to speak credibly to client needs.
- Act as a subject-matter resource on Resilience’s Biologics and Drug Product capabilities for clients and, as experience grows, mentor less experienced Business Development colleagues.
- Monitor and report on West Coast market dynamics, competitor activity, and customer intelligence to inform Resilience’s go-to-market strategy.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date opportunity and account data in Salesforce; provide timely call summaries and monthly reporting on activity, pipeline, and forecasts.
- Partner closely with Commercial Development to ensure deal structures align with business and capacity needs; partner with inside sales and the Strategic team on lead sourcing.
What You Bring
Required
- Proven and progressive experience in CDMO/CDMO-adjacent sales, business development, or technical account management, with a demonstrated record of generating and closing new business.
- Working knowledge of Biologics (drug substance) and/or Drug Product (fill/finish) development and manufacturing processes.
- A proven “hunter” mentality, self-directed, resilient, and energized by building pipeline in a new or underdeveloped territory.
- Strong relationship-building and consultative-selling skills, with the ability to earn trust with both scientific and commercial stakeholders.
- Exposure with contract structures and business models common in CDMO relationships (fee-for-service, clinical and commercial supply agreements).
- Based on or willing to be based on the West Coast, with the ability to travel up to 50% within the territory.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences or engineering discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field); advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in CDMO/CDMO-adjacent sales, business development, or technical account management, with a demonstrated record of generating and closing new business.
- Existing network of relationships within West Coast biotech and pharma organizations.
- Prior experience selling Biologics or Drug Product development and manufacturing services specifically.
Demonstrated ability to coach and enable technical staff and proposal/project management partners to contribute effectively to client-facing business development activities.
Sponsorship or support for work authorization, including visas, is not available for this position.

Sales Development Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales development manager in California?
Most sales development managers in California move into the role after building a strong record as an individual sales development representative, then stepping into a team lead position. California employers in SaaS and enterprise tech typically expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, though demonstrated pipeline results carry significant weight. There is no state-issued license required to work in this role in California.
How much do sales development managers make in California?
Sales development managers in California earn a median of about $134,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,430 for the lowest 10% to over $300,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales development managers in California?
Employers hiring sales development managers in California right now include Airwallex, TEKsystems, and Commure, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's dense concentration of enterprise software and cloud technology companies means demand is especially consistent across the Bay Area and greater Los Angeles.
Which California cities have the most sales development manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most sales development manager openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its high density of enterprise SaaS and cloud technology headquarters, while Los Angeles draws hiring from media technology and fintech companies, and San Diego benefits from a growing cluster of cybersecurity and life sciences software firms that rely on structured outbound sales teams.
Are there remote sales development manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields, given that sales development work is largely phone and email based and does not require a physical site. About 53% of sales development manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly California's tech sector has embraced distributed sales teams. Outbound coaching, pipeline review, and team standup functions are the most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a sales development manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is performing as a top-ranking individual sales development representative and being promoted internally into a team lead role before pursuing a full manager title. Large California-based technology companies such as Salesforce and Oracle run structured SDR programs that develop new talent and promote from within. Candidates who hold a Salesforce Administrator certification or a Certified Inside Sales Professional credential gain an edge when competing for first-time manager openings in the California market.
