Sales Development Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales development manager in Illinois?
Most sales development managers in Illinois move into the role after several years as individual contributor sales development representatives, then step into a team lead position before being promoted or hired as a manager. Illinois employers typically expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or communications, though strong performance records in SDR roles at Chicago-area tech or financial services firms can substitute. No state-issued license or certification is required for this role in Illinois.
How much do sales development managers make in Illinois?
Sales development managers in Illinois earn a median of about $155,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,760 for the lowest 10% to over $282,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales development managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring sales development managers in Illinois right now include Paylocity, Stripe, and LG Electronics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of enterprise software, financial services, and logistics technology companies means the pipeline for SDR management roles remains active across both the Chicago Loop and suburban office corridors like Naperville and Schaumburg.
Which Illinois cities have the most sales development manager jobs?
Chicago, Schaumburg, and Peoria lead Illinois for sales development manager openings. Chicago dominates because it serves as the regional headquarters for major fintech, SaaS, and professional services firms, while suburban hubs like Naperville and Rosemont attract openings from mid-market technology and logistics companies that maintain large inside sales operations outside the city center.
Are there remote sales development manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than many management roles, because sales development work is largely phone and video-based rather than location-dependent. About 66% of sales development manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Fully remote positions are most common at SaaS and fintech companies, while on-site or hybrid arrangements tend to come from manufacturing and logistics technology employers.
How can I get hired as a sales development manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to secure an SDR or business development representative role at a Chicago-area technology or financial services company and build a measurable record of quota attainment before pursuing a team lead title. Large Illinois employers such as CDW, Morningstar, and Oracle's Chicago offices run structured SDR programs that create internal promotion pipelines. Lateral moves from inside sales, account coordination, or revenue operations roles can also position you for an SDR management opportunity without prior formal management experience.
Where can I find and apply to sales development manager jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to sales development manager jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings from employers actively hiring for the role. Search the available positions, identify the ones that fit your background and preferred location, and apply directly to those employers through the listing.
