Territory Sales Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a territory sales manager in California?
Most territory sales managers in California enter the role through a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a field aligned with their industry, followed by two to four years in inside or outside sales. California does not require a state-issued license for most sales roles, but medical device and pharmaceutical sales candidates gain a strong edge by completing the Certified National Pharmaceutical Representative credential or relevant clinical training. Employers in Los Angeles and the Bay Area typically promote from within from account executive or sales development representative roles.
How much do territory sales managers make in California?
Territory sales managers in California earn a median of about $134,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,430 for the lowest 10% to over $300,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire territory sales managers in California?
Employers hiring territory sales managers in California right now include Insulet Corporation, Alkermes, and Becton, Dickinson and Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's mix of life sciences companies in San Diego, enterprise tech firms in the Bay Area, and large consumer goods distributors in Los Angeles means consistent openings well beyond a single sector.
Which California cities have the most territory sales manager jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego currently have the most territory sales manager openings in California. Los Angeles draws high volume from consumer goods, food service, and healthcare distributors, the Bay Area is driven by SaaS and enterprise technology companies headquartered there, and San Diego's concentration of biotech and medical device firms creates steady demand for life sciences territory roles in that corridor.
Are there remote territory sales manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Territory sales management is inherently field-based, requiring in-person client visits, product demonstrations, and on-site relationship building across an assigned region. About 32% of territory sales manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be roles where the territory is managed primarily by phone and video, such as inside territory accounts or certain SaaS renewals positions.
How can I get hired as a territory sales manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a sales development representative or account coordinator role at a California-based company, then moving into territory management after demonstrating quota attainment. Large California employers like Sysco, Stryker, and Oracle run structured associate sales rotational programs designed for candidates without direct territory experience. Completing a recognized sales certification and building a portfolio of measurable results from any customer-facing role gives applicants from retail, inside sales, or clinical backgrounds a clear advantage.
Where can I find and apply to territory sales manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to territory sales manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to California employers and regions. Find roles that fit your industry focus and territory preference, then apply directly to the ones that match.
