Market Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a market manager in California?
Most market manager roles in California require a bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field, followed by experience in sales, brand management, or trade marketing. California does not require a state-issued license for this role, but many employers prioritize candidates who have worked with California-specific retail chains or distributors. Building experience in account management or category analysis and earning a professional marketing certification can strengthen your candidacy significantly in this competitive state market.
How much do market managers make in California?
Market managers in California earn a median of about $193,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $104,370 for the lowest 10% to over $326,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire market managers in California?
Employers hiring market managers in California right now include Block, City National Bank, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of consumer brands, technology firms, and regional grocery and foodservice operators makes it one of the most active states for this role year-round.
Which California cities have the most market manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Carlsbad have the most market manager openings in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco dominate because of their headquarters density in consumer goods, media, and technology, while San Diego draws hiring from its strong biotech, retail, and hospitality sectors, meaning openings outside the Bay Area are often tied to regional sales territories rather than smaller local markets.
Are there remote market manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many commercial roles, because market managers who handle digital channels, programmatic strategy, or national account analytics can often work remotely. About 18% of market manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's mix of desk-based strategy work and in-market field responsibilities. Roles focused on trade execution, retail resets, or on-site distributor management tend to require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a market manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales coordinator, marketing coordinator, or category analyst role at a California consumer goods company or regional distributor, where you build the account and data skills that market manager positions require. Large California-based employers like Calavo Growers, BevMo, or regional grocery chains run associate and rotational programs that place new graduates into market-facing roles. Completing a CPG or retail marketing internship in California and building proficiency in syndicated data tools gives candidates without direct management experience a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to market manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to market manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each position without needing to create a profile or sign up first.
