Marketing Communications Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing communications manager in Pennsylvania?
Marketing communications manager roles in Pennsylvania do not require a state-issued license or registration. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations, along with several years of progressively responsible experience. Pennsylvania's large healthcare systems, universities, and financial institutions often prefer candidates with industry-specific communications experience, and a portfolio demonstrating campaign work, content development, or media relations strengthens most applications significantly.
How much do marketing communications managers make in Pennsylvania?
Marketing communications managers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $150,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,990 for the lowest 10% to over $246,320 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire marketing communications managers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring marketing communications managers in Pennsylvania right now include Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of major health systems, financial services firms, and large universities means communications roles here often require experience translating complex subjects for general audiences.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most marketing communications manager jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg have the most marketing communications manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates due to its headquarters concentration in healthcare, insurance, and professional services, while Pittsburgh's expanding technology and healthcare sectors drive demand there, and smaller markets like Allentown reflect the regional corporate presence of manufacturing and logistics employers headquartered in the Lehigh Valley.
Are there remote marketing communications manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields, since marketing communications work is largely desk-based and well suited to remote environments. About 75% of marketing communications manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have adopted flexible arrangements for this role. Content strategy, digital campaign management, and copywriting responsibilities tend to be the most consistently remote-eligible parts of the job.
How can I get hired as a marketing communications manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a coordinator or specialist role in communications, marketing, or public relations, then building toward a manager title over a few years. Large Pennsylvania employers like UPMC, Independence Blue Cross, and major Philadelphia-area universities regularly hire communications associates and marketing coordinators as entry points. Candidates strengthen their candidacy by building a portfolio of writing samples, campaign briefs, or social media work, and by pursuing credentials like a Google Analytics certification or HubSpot content marketing certification while in junior roles.
Where can I find and apply to marketing communications manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to marketing communications manager jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to the ones that fit.
