Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Missouri?
Nurse practitioners in Missouri must hold a master's or doctoral degree, pass a national certification exam through AANP or ANCC, and obtain a license from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Physician assistants must graduate from an accredited PA program, pass the PANCE through NCCPA, and register with the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Both roles require a written collaborative practice agreement with a supervising physician in Missouri.
Which companies hire nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Missouri?
Employers hiring nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Missouri right now include Mercy, Washington University in St. Louis, and CoxHealth, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's large integrated health systems and federally qualified health centers consistently post among the highest volumes of openings across the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs?
St. Louis, Springfield, and Kansas City have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis lead because of their dense concentration of major health systems, academic medical centers, and multispecialty group practices, while Columbia draws strong hiring volumes through MU Health Care and its surrounding regional referral network.
Are there remote nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. About 16% of nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how hands-on clinical care limits full remote work for most roles. The positions most likely to offer remote arrangements are in telehealth, behavioral health consulting, and utilization review.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or residency programs run by large Missouri health systems, including BJC HealthCare and MU Health Care, which offer structured NP and PA residencies in primary care and hospital medicine. Candidates who held roles as registered nurses, paramedics, or surgical technologists often transition more readily. Completing your Missouri collaborative practice agreement paperwork early and holding an active Epic certification strengthens any application from a new graduate.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the employer without any intermediary step.
