Nurse Resident Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse resident in Massachusetts?
To become a nurse resident in Massachusetts, you must first earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program, pass the NCLEX-RN, and obtain an active Registered Nurse license through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Once licensed, you apply directly to nurse residency programs at Massachusetts hospital systems, which are typically structured one-year transition-to-practice programs designed for new graduates entering acute care.
Which companies hire nurse residents in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring nurse residents in Massachusetts right now include Baystate Health, Berkshire Health Systems, and Lowell Area Assisted Living, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Massachusetts's high concentration of academic medical centers and large integrated health systems means nurse residency programs are widely available and competitively structured across the state.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most nurse resident jobs?
Springfield, Milford, and Fitchburg have the most nurse resident openings in Massachusetts. Boston anchors the distribution as home to the state's largest academic medical centers and specialty hospitals, while Worcester and Springfield reflect the regional health systems that serve central and western Massachusetts, including UMass Memorial Health and Baystate Health.
Are there remote nurse resident jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Nurse residency programs are fundamentally hands-on, floor-based roles that require in-person patient care and supervised clinical hours, so remote work is not a realistic option for most positions. About 0% of nurse resident openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those exceptions typically involve administrative or care coordination components rather than direct bedside practice.
How can I get hired as a nurse resident in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a formal nurse residency program, which is specifically designed for new graduates with no professional nursing experience. Large Massachusetts employers such as Mass General Brigham, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and UMass Memorial Health run structured new-grad residency cohorts in specialties including med-surg and critical care. Holding an active Massachusetts RN license and completing your NCLEX-RN before your application deadline gives you a clear edge over candidates still awaiting licensure.
Where can I find and apply to nurse resident jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to nurse resident jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings across hospital systems and health networks in the state. Search the listings for roles that fit your specialty interest and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that match your background.
