Nurse Resident Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse resident in Mississippi?
To become a nurse resident in Mississippi, you must first earn an accredited nursing degree, pass the NCLEX-RN, and obtain licensure through the Mississippi Board of Nursing. Once licensed, you apply directly to hospital-based residency programs, which are typically structured as year-long cohort experiences for new graduates. Mississippi participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so compact-state license holders may also qualify without obtaining a separate Mississippi license.
Which companies hire nurse residents in Mississippi?
Companies currently hiring nurse residents in Mississippi include FMOL Health and Baptist Memorial Health Care, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Mississippi's largest health systems tend to recruit in structured annual or biannual cohorts, so checking listings regularly improves your chances of catching an open enrollment window.
Which Mississippi cities have the most nurse resident jobs?
Jackson, Southaven, and Oxford have the most nurse resident openings in Mississippi. Jackson dominates as the state capital and home to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, while Gulfport and Hattiesburg anchor the Gulf Coast and Pine Belt regions respectively, each supported by large regional health systems that run ongoing residency programs for new graduate nurses.
How can I get hired as a nurse resident in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying directly to new-graduate residency programs at Mississippi's major health systems, which are designed specifically for candidates without prior clinical employment. Institutions such as Merit Health and Forrest General Hospital run structured cohort programs that accept applicants immediately after NCLEX-RN passage. Completing a capstone or preceptorship at a Mississippi facility during nursing school, obtaining your BLS certification early, and holding an active Mississippi Board of Nursing license before applications open are the credentials that give candidates the clearest edge.
